Acord warns city council
Councilman looking for transparency for his constituents; 'we ain't listening to our people'
Kokomo Common Councilman Jason Acord is not on the same page as his fellow councilmen. This difference was on display at the council’s April 25 meeting, during which Acord made an open plea for transparency from the city administration and warned the council that he would not remain silent any longer.
Acord’s displeasure surfaced initially in the council’s information session prior to the meeting. Aware that some of his fellow council members had attended a meeting in which the details of a public safety study were disclosed, the councilman asked for an account of the findings. He did not get one.
“I would, if we have some time, have the guys and gals who sat in on the meeting, go around and give me a synopsis of what happened,” said Acord. “What was their take? I’d like to hear what everybody thinks about that.”
Council president Ray Collins immediately shut down Acord’s request, suggesting that the matter should be discussed outside of the public meeting.
“So, that’s the way we’re going to play it?” Acord responded. “That’s alright. I’ve got an angle.”
“I’m glad you do,” said Collins. “That’s how we’re going to play it.”
