In celebration of National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, the Indiana Association of Rehabilitation Facilities (INARF) is proud to present Beneath the Mask, an evocative art series currently on display at the University of Indianapolis.
At the same time, a diverse crowd of supporters — including community leaders, artists, advocates, and organizations — came together on March 7 at the Indianapolis International Airport to unveil the Ability Indiana Art Exhibit, a powerful showcase celebrating the creativity and perspectives of artists with disabilities.
Presented by INARF in partnership with Ability Indiana, both exhibits feature artwork from neurodivergent individuals across the state, including works by talented client-artisans from Bona Vista/Developmental Services, Inc. (DSI).
The Ability Indiana Art Exhibit highlights the many ways neurodivergent artists express themselves through diverse artistic mediums, reinforcing the message that art has no limits. From bold colors to intricate designs, each piece tells a unique story of individuality and self-expression. As part of National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month, this exhibit amplifies the voices of artists with disabilities while promoting inclusion and appreciation for their creative contributions.
Several pieces in the Beneath the Mask exhibit were created by DSI client-artisans, whose creativity and unique perspectives shine through in each mixed-media work. These pieces explore themes of identity, self-expression, and the deeper emotions that lie beneath the surface.
DSI, a proud INARF member, serves individuals with disabilities across 63 counties in Indiana, providing programs that foster self-direction, inclusion, and personal fulfillment. The exhibits align with INARF’s mission to support individuals with disabilities by promoting artistic expression and community engagement.
As the principal membership organization representing providers across Indiana, INARF supports more than 50,000 individuals annually and employs nearly 15,000 workers dedicated to advancing opportunities for people with disabilities.
On Monday, March 10, DSI artists from across the state who contributed to the exhibit will visit the airport to experience their work on display, celebrating their achievements and artistic impact.
Additionally, select artists will be featured on WTHR-TV at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. today, sharing their creative journeys and the significance of this opportunity. Travelers passing through Indianapolis International Airport this month are encouraged to visit the Ability Indiana Art Exhibit and the Beneath the Mask exhibit to witness firsthand the incredible talent and artistry of individuals with disabilities.
