As Halloween approaches, there is a chill in the air, and spooky things flitter about. But at the Bewitched Women's Gathering Market on Oct. 21 at downtown Kokomo's Radish Market and Cafe, the atmosphere was warm and inviting as several local women entrepreneurs displayed their wares while accompanied by musician Elizabeth Lee.
Radish employee and the Women's Gathering creator Tabitha Pelgen stated, "almost everybody is from Howard County, and Elizabeth Lee is from Indianapolis," as she explained her idea to bring together small businesses that were woman-owned and operated. The products displayed ranged from jewelry and plants to fresh baked goods and gluten-free pastries.
The Radish's owner, Adrienne Akers, put together a "Spooky Board" individual charcuterie selection for the Halloween-themed event, which consisted of a small, hollowed-out pumpkin filled with sausage and rice, lychee fruit stuffed with blackberries, spooky focaccia bread with hummus made of sweet potato and black beans, and "Vampire Slayer" pumpkin soup.
