The lights and the sounds of Las Vegas filtered through Kokomo’s south side recently as Bona Vista Programs held its 8th annual Viva Las Vista fundraiser. Once again, the event was held at The Venue, 1201 W. Alto Road. The decorations reflected the Vegas theme with craps, poker, blackjack and roulette among other gaming pursuits. Gaming dealers and tables were provided by the Sertoma Club of Broad Ripple, Ind.
Brittany Barnard, Development Coordinator for Bona Vista stated that roughly 150 partygoers attended though more than 190 tickets were sold.
Bona Vista Programs offers adult and residential services, along with programs for children and to the community at large by giving diverse individuals opportunities for employment with various local businesses. Fundraisers like Viva Las Vista help support these programs financially and give back to the community as well.
Along with individual and corporate donations, Bona Vista hoped to raise at least $150,000 this year through the Viva Las Vista event.

McCormick files to run for Indiana Governor
On Feb. 5, Indiana’s last statewide-elected superintendent of public instruction filed the official paperwork to run for governor in 2024. Dr. Jennifer McCormick turned in more than 9,000 signatures, greatly exceeding the required number to qualify for the ballot.
The campaign’s robust bipartisan, grassroots coalition demonstrates expansive support for her commitment to a strong economy, quality education, personal liberties, and women’s reproductive freedoms. McCormick has a proven record of empowering and serving Hoosiers by demanding government be held accountable, transparent, and of high integrity.
“I am humbled by the many volunteers and donors who are supporting our efforts and the thousands of Hoosiers who signed a petition to get me on the ballot,” sioad McCormick. “I will continue to work tirelessly for everyone across our great state. This campaign is about the important issues impacting the daily lives of Hoosiers.
“Indiana deserves a governor who will fight against extremism and fight for sensible, effective policies. As your first female governor, I will focus on what is best for Indiana: the need for good paying jobs, high-quality education, access to affordable healthcare, responsible use of our tax dollars, and protection of our rights and freedoms.”
More information about McCormick’s campaign is available on her campaign website, www.McCormickForGov.com, and Hoosiers can follow her campaign on Facebook and Twitter.
