Building a fun evening
Kokomo Howard County Public Library offers LEGO night as part of its STEM programming
It may be the most popular toy in the history of the world, and it took center stage at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library last week. The library offered LEGO Night as part of its STEM Thursday event on May 12, and there was no shortage of budding Master Builders.
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math, and each of the activities offered as part of the library’s program addresses one or more of these areas. On LEGO night, engineering was the focus as the kids (and adults) used their imaginations to design and build their own unique creations.
“It’s for all ages, and we do it once a week,” said event conductor Emily Ogle of STEM Thursdays. “For this event, the kids get a Master Builder hat. We have books they can base their designs off of. We have charades sheets where they can build one of the things on the sheets, and the other kids can try to guess which thing they built. It’s kind of a free-for-all event using your hands and getting creative!”
STEM Thursday is one of dozens of special activities offered by the library every month. For additional information about this and other upcoming programs, visit khcpl.org.
