Stellantis’ four Kokomo-area manufacturing facilities invite the local community to celebrate Earth Day and reduce landfill waste by bringing old electronics to their Electronic Waste Recycling Day.
The event will take place on April 20 from 8 a.m. to noon at the Kokomo Transmission Plant’s southwest parking lot (corner of Home and Lincoln).
“Eighty percent of electronic waste is not properly recycled and is becoming a serious problem for the environment – impacting air, soil and people,” said Kevin Dunbar, Director of Facilities at Stellantis. “If you’ve been wondering what to do with that old computer monitor, cell phone or dried up ink cartridges, we encourage you to bring them to our Electronic Waste Recycling Day so they don’t end up in a landfill and are disposed of properly. This is something everyone can do to protect our planet.”
Stellantis is partnering with the nonprofit RecycleForce to manage the recycling of all materials collected during the event. RecycleForce’s mission is not only to help support a cleaner environment through electronics recycling, but to also reduce crime through employment and job training for returning citizens.
“RecycleForce is excited about partnering with Stellantis for this collection event,” said Daniel Rowe, Director of Recycling at RecycleForce. “Through its work, RecycleForce creates a cleaner environment and a stronger workforce for future generations. Events like this help us create jobs for returning citizens while saving thousands of pounds from the landfill.”
A variety of electronics will be accepted including personal/office computers (no CRT televisions or monitors), consumer electronics, office equipment, small appliances (no refrigerators/freezers or washers/dryers) and telecommunications equipment.
The Electronic Waste Recyling Day is another initiative supporting Stellantis’ Dare Forward 2030 long term strategy to reduce its carbon footprint. The plan includes a combination of introducing more electric vehicles and increasing overall battery electric vehicle sales globally with improving waste reduction and recycling initiatives in all Stellantis facilities. The Company’s carbon footprint reduction target is 50 percent by 2030, compared to 2021 levels, and to be carbon net zero by 2038.
Stellantis currently has more than 6,500 employees and operates four powertrain plants – two transmission plants, a casting plant and an engine plant – in Indiana. The company has invested nearly $800 million in its current operations to support the transition to electrification.
