Looking for ‘Artivists’
With the theme “The Art That Moved the Movement,” the 2025 edition of Ivy Tech Kokomo’s annual “Doing the Dream” event will include an exhibition of work submitted by a variety of “artivists.” This is the 21st year Ivy Tech Kokomo has presented the annual events to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Artists – emerging and established, student and professional, local and nationwide – are invited to submit work for the exhibition scheduled during “Doing the Dream” activities Feb. 6 and 7 on the Ivy Tech Kokomo Campus. Tuskeegee Exhibit at Artworks
The national traveling exhibition “Tuskeegee Airmen: America’s Freedom Flyers” will be on display at the Kokomo Art Association’s Artworks Gallery, 210 N. Main St., beginning Jan. 19. The exhibition will be open for free exhibition tours to community groups, churches, and schools, with educational curriculum and activity packets available during the tour. Artworks Gallery is open Mon.-Sat. from noon until 4 p.m. Additional exhibition tour times can be made possible by special arrangement. Meditation Mondays

KPRD Softball
Registration for the Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department’s softball leagues – men’s, women’s, and co-ed – will open on Jan. 20 and close on Fri., Feb. 28. League organizational meetings will take place on Tue., March 4, at 6:30 p.m. in Rodgers Pavilion at Highland Park. League play begins April 21. Diamond practice books will open and schedule pick-up information will be provided at the organizational meetings. Teams will be registered on a first come, first served basis. Select Student Works 2025
The Indiana University Kokomo Art Gallery presents artworks in an exhibition hand-picked by faculty members to showcase students’ talent and creativity. Artwork created in various media, including digital, drawing, printmaking, painting, and more, will be on display. An opening reception will be held Wed., Jan 29, from 4-6 p.m., and the exhibition will continue through Feb. 20 at 5 p.m. The IUK Art Gallery, 2300 S. Washington St., is open Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Family Night at Silver Birch

Point in Time
If you are homeless, please participate in the annual Point in Time census on Thu., Jan. 30. By visiting either the Kokomo Rescue Mission, 321 W. Mulberry St., or CAM, 625 N. Union St., you can be counted and receive a care package of supplies, including blankets, toiletries, hats, gloves, and more. The Point in Time survey is confidential and strictly voluntary. Doing the Dream
Renowned poet and social activist Sonia Sanchez will serve as keynote speaker for Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo’s 2025 “Doing the Dream” events, designed to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The event is set for Feb. 6-7 and employs the theme “The Art That Moved the Movement.” The traditional community banquet will take place Thu., Feb. 6, in Hingst Hall on the Ivy Tech Kokomo Campus, 1815 E. Chili Cook-Off
The Russiaville AMVETS Post 27 will hold its annual Chili Cook-Off Sat., Feb. 8, from 3-7 p.m. Registration for this event is now open to the public. Ever wondered if your chili stacks up against the best? Do you have a desire to debate whether macaroni or beans belong in chili? Do you just want to eat some darn good chili? You can enter a crockpot of your best chili into the competition for just $10. Or you can eat and judge for yourself. A $10 ticket ($5 for kids) gets you a pass to an all-you-can-eat evening of chili fun! This year, AMVETS is offering cash prizes for the top two finishers: $125 for first place and $100 for second. Grandparents Dance
The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department will host a Grandparents Dance on Fri., Feb. 14, from 6-8 p.m. at the Kokomo Senior Center in Foster Park. This event is open to all grandparents and grandchildren. No membership is required, but members and their children are admitted free. Cost is $5 per adult (cash only). Marty Myers Legacy Conference
Professional Firefighters of Kokomo Local 396 will hold the inaugural Marty Myers Legacy Conference on Sat., Feb. 15, from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Kokomo High School, 2501 S. Berkley Road. Join them for a day filled with inspiration, learning, and networking. Bobby Eckert of Eckert Fire Tactics with present Urban Engine Operations from 8 a.m. until noon. Photography Exhibition
The Greentown Public Library, 421 S. Harrison St., will feature an exhibition showcasing the photography of local resident Terry Steiner. The exhibition will take place from March 1-8 in the library’s community room. Steiner brings 25 years of experience in capturing the essence of life through his lens.

Laser Tag at the Library
Gather your friends and get ready to dominate the competition at the Greentown Public Library, 421 S. Harrison St., as it hosts an evening of Laser Tag! Navigate the library aisles, and battle it out among the shelves on Fri., April 25, from 6-8 p.m. All equipment will be provided, and pizza and drinks will be served. The event is open to tweens and teens ages 12-18. Space is limited. Four sessions lasting 30 minutes each will be conducted, and no more than 20 participants will be allowed to participate in each session. Greentown Glass Festival
The Greentown Main Street Association announces the Greentown Glass Festival, scheduled for June 14, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in downtown Greentown. The event is co-sponsored by First Farmers Bank and Trust. Enjoy nine restaurants within one block of downtown, along with food and craft vendors, a kid zone, a parade, local bands in concert, a car show, and more. Vendor space is available now. Kokomo’s Funniest Comedian
Calling all comedians! Rhine Hall Entertainment and Event Venue will hold its second annual Kokomo’s Funniest Comedian competition every Friday evening in September, with a grand finale taking place Oct. 3. Registration is open now for comedians seeking to compete. Registration deadline is July 28. Submit your three-minute performance video to rhinehall.gary@gmail.com. Each week, a panel of judges will select a winner from a round of competition who will advance to the finals. Those in attendance also have a chance to advance a comedian through people’s choice voting. The winning comedian will receive a $500 cash prize, a trophy, and paying gigs at an upcoming Rhine Hall comedy showcase and as the host of the 2026 competition.
