Adopt and Let Love Grow
Through May 15, the Kokomo Humane Society will Spring into love with reduced adoption rates. Dogs can be adopted for $100, while cats are available for $30. Puppies and kittens are not included in this effort.

The Yellow Boat
Curtain Call Theatre for Children will present The Yellow Boat on Fri., May 16, at 7 p.m., as well as on Sat., May 18, at 1 p.m. and on Sun., May 18, at 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. The performances will take place at Curtain Call Studio, 2114 N. The story of The Yellow Boat is a glorious affirmation of a child’s life and the strength and courage of all children, based on the true story of Benjamin Saar, a child born with congenital hemophilia who died in 1987 at the age of 8 from AIDS-related complications. KPD 5K

CrisisReady Howard County
Summer heat is coming. Are you prepared? Join the Howard County Health Department on Thu., May 22, and learn how to stay cool, even when the power is out. Learn who is most at risk of suffering heat-related illnesses, as well as what signs to look for and how to respond. This educational session will take place at the Russiaville Lions Club, 555 N. Liberty St., Russiaville, from 6:30-8 p.m. Free preparedness items and resources will be available to participants. After the presentation, receive your CPR certification (BLS) while learning how to apply rescue breaths, compressions, and how to use an AED. CPR is a life-saving first aid skill. Closing the Gap
The Carver Community Center, 1030 N. Purdum St., will hold its annual Closing the Gap Summer Camp from June 3 through July 3. The camp takes place each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. through those dates. The camp provides classes focusing on language, computer skills, reading, mathematics, and STEM. The classes are led by licensed teachers, and instruction is given based on Indiana state standards. Classes will be filled with students selected by academic need, teacher recommendation, and school attendance. A parent must consent to sharing their child’s test scores with Closing the Gap teachers and administrators. This camp is free to attend and is available to children in grades K-5. Wednesdays at the Greentown Library
The Summer Reading Program at the Greentown Public Library, 421 E. Harrison St., is packed with activities for children. Each Wednesday at 1 p.m. through early July, the library will feature special programming. On June 4, Chalk the Block and transform the sidewalk around the library lot into a colorful masterpiece. On June 11, Color Your World with a beautiful porch spinner. On June 18, discover how to make scratch art sheets. Then, design a creation to take home and enjoy. On June 25, create a colorful sun catcher to brighten up any space. On July 2, dive into the MESStival and leave with a messy masterpiece of your own. On July 9, design a one-of-a-kind paper collage placemat using paper scraps. Take it home the same day, or leave it to be laminated.
The Uncanny Exhibition
The IU Kokomo Art Gallery is searching for something strange. The Uncanny Exhibition will take place June 4-25, and the gallery is inviting artists to submit their unnatural or otherworldly artwork. Fridays at the Greentown Library
The Summer Reading Program at the Greentown Public Library, 421 E. Harrison St., is packed with activities for children. Each Friday at 1 p.m. through early July, the library will feature special programming. On June 6, dress up in your brightest colors and get ready for a Technicolor Dance Party. This event will include black lights, strobe lights, and loud music. On June 13, head to Suburban Lanes in Tipton for an afternoon of Cosmic Bowling under the disco lights, complete with booming music and tons of fun. On June 20, go Somewhere Over the Rainbow with library. Follow the yellow brick road and gather all the pieces needed to create a rainbow craft. Don’t miss this choose-you-own-adventure experience! On June 27, declare a Color War! Meet on the Comet Trail near the T-ball field to jog through rainbow clouds, then cool off with a splash on the library lawn. On July 11, it’s time to Taste the rainbow, wrapping up the reading program with rainbow-themed snacks.

The Greentown Main Street Association announces the Greentown Glass Festival, scheduled for June 14, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in downtown Greentown. Creamed Corn Chug
The Literacy Coalition of Howard County will take center stage at the 2025 Floating Lantern and Foodie Feast-ival at Beaver Point Campground in Windfall on June 14 at 7 p.m. It will be the recipient of proceeds from a creamed corn chugging contest fundraiser. Participants will pay $25 to prove they are the fastest at consuming a 60 oz. pitcher of creamed corn. The fastest, cleanest chug will take the title. Explore the exciting world of building and architecture, using your imagination to construct amazing structures with LEGOs, which must remain in the library.
Super Explorers Camp
The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department will offer its Super Explorers and Junior Super Explorers camps this summer. The Junior Super Explorers Camp runs from June 16-20 for children ages 5-8. Fired Arts at the Greentown Library
Unleash your creativity on Thu., June 19, as Fired Arts Studio, 111 W. Sycamore St., hosts the Greentown Public Library’s Adult Summer Reading Program. Join the Greentown Public Library from June 30-July 13 for its annual book sale. Find great deals in the Library Community Room during normal operating hours as well as at the Howard County 4H Fair. All items will be 50 cents, with the proceeds benefiting library programs. Donations are being accepted at the library, 421 S. Harrison St.
