Lunch and Learn
Lunch and Learn returns to the Kokomo Family YMCA Fri., Aug. 1, at 12:10 p.m. Join Community Howard Regional Health in the Community Room, where Dr. Joshua Manghelli, a breast surgeon with the Community Health Network MD Anderson Cancer Center, will lead a discussion on breast health. During this session, Dr. Manghelli will cover breast screening guidelines, as well as lifestyle and hereditary factors that increase the risk of breast cancer. He will also share the latest advancements in breast cancer treatment. The free lunch is generously provided by Trilogy Health Services for those who register for this 40-minute Lunch and Learn. Kokomo’s Funniest Comedian
Calling all comedians! Rhine Hall Entertainment and Event Venue will hold its second annual Kokomo’s Funniest Comedian competition every Friday evening in September, with a grand finale taking place Oct. 3. Registration is open now for comedians seeking to compete. Registration deadline is July 28. Submit your three-minute performance video to rhinehall.gary@gmail.com. Each week, a panel of judges will select a winner from a round of competition who will advance to the finals. Those in attendance also have a chance to advance a comedian through people’s choice voting. The winning comedian will receive a $500 cash prize, a trophy, and paying gigs at an upcoming Rhine Hall comedy showcase and as the host of the 2026 competition.
Shark-tacular Bash
Get ready to dive into an ocean of fun outdoors with shark-themed activities, games, and crafts that will make a big splash! The Kokomo Howard County Public Library will hold a Shark-tacular Bash at its Russiaville branch, 315 Mesa Dr., on Mon., July 28, from 10-11 a.m. It's the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer with your little ones.
Weather Fun
Join Austin Pearson, Climatologist with the Indiana State Climate Office, as he visits the Kokomo Howard County Public Library to explore Indiana weather. The event takes place at the library’s Russiaville branch, 315 Mesa Dr., on Mon., July 28, from 3-4 p.m.
Co-Ed Youth Group
The Carver Community Center, 1030 N. Purdum St., holds a Co-Ed Youth Group every other Monday for children ages 5-18. The next group is scheduled for July 28. Join them to share a meal together, engage in God’s message, and have recreation time. The group meets from 6-7:30 p.m.
Back to School Shoe Event
The Center Township Trustee’s Office will host a Back to School Shoe Event on Sat., Aug. 2, from 7:30-10 a.m. at Shoe Carnival, located in Boulevard Crossing. Applications are accepted now for K-12 students residing in Center Township. Parents may apply by calling 765-452-8259. Eligibility is based on need and residency, and participation is limited to the first 100 children registered. The registration deadline is July 28.
Tzion Community Food Pantry

Carver Summer Basketball Camp
The Carver Community Center, 1030 N. Purdum St., will host its Summer Basketball Camp on July 29-31, featuring instructors “Fudge” Moore, Antonio Penny, Ja’Rob McCallum, and Tayler Persons. There will be two sessions each day. The Advanced Sessions run from 9 a.m. until noon each day and are designed for highly skilled players in grades 6-12. The Beginner Sessions run from 1-4 p.m. each day and are designed for beginner-level players in grades K-12. The cost is $50 per player. Birthday Card Buffet
The Birthday Card Buffet is an opportunity to handcraft cards using rubber stamping and paper crafting techniques. YMCA Golf Outing
The Kokomo Family YMCA’s annual golf outing will take place Wed., July 30, at Chippendale Golf Course, starting at 1 p.m. The event will include various contests, including longest drive, closest to the pin, a $10,000 putting competition, and more. All proceeds from this event will be designated to the YMCA’s annual campaign, which allows the YMCA to provide financial assistance to those in need, regardless of age, income, or background, to ensure they have access to Summer Camp, swim lessons, and youth sports.
Start Smart Back to School Clinic
The Howard County Health Department is excited to announce its Start Smart! Back-to-School Walk-In Clinic, a one-day immunization event designed to ensure students entering Kindergarten through 12th grade are up to date on required vaccinations before the new school year. The clinic will be held Thursday, July 31, at the Howard County Health Department, 120 E. Mulberry St., Room 206, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. This clinic offers convenient walk-in service with no appointment necessary. Both public and private insurance are accepted, and low or no-cost vaccines are available for children who are uninsured. To help reduce wait times and speed up the check-in process, families are encouraged to pre-register and complete a HIPAA form in advance. However, preregistration is not required—all walk-ins are welcome. If you're unsure whether your child is up to date on vaccinations, please call the Health Department at 765-456-2408, Option 1.

Scriptwriting Workshop
The Kokomo Filmmakers Group will hold a workshop on Thu., July 31, where you can learn scriptwriting techniques and then be able to put them into action by collaborating with fellow filmmakers to craft an original script. This workshop takes place at the Kokomo Howard County Public Library, 220 N. Union St., from 6-7:30 p.m.
Music at the Fairgrounds
Bring a lawn chair and enjoy live music at the Howard County Fairgrounds on Thu., July 31, at 7 p.m.! Sally Duke and Friends are the featured artists. Admission is free, and shows will be performed in front of the Community Building. If there is rain in the forecast, concerts will be moved to the Fairgrounds’ Brad Howell Ford Pavilion.
KPRD Fall Softball
Registration is open now for the Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department’s fall softball league, featuring men’s and co-ed divisions. Registrations will remain open through Aug. 1. Yoga in the Park
The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department welcomes back Yoga in the Park, featuring 11 free yoga sessions in three different public parks. The sessions are open to all skill levels and are totally free to the public. Classes will take place in Jackson Morrow Park at the shelter from 6-7 p.m. on Sat., Aug. 9, and Sept. 20. Highland Park will host classes at the Earthen Stage from 8-9 a.m. on Sat., Aug. 2. Foster Park will feature yoga at the Performing Arts Pavilion from 8-9 a.m. on Sat., Aug. 23, and Sept. 6. KPRD does not supply mats or other equipment.
Back to School Rally
Join Indiana Black Expo on Sat., Aug. 2, as it holds a Back to School Rally at the Center Township Community Building, 213 E. Jefferson St. From 9 a.m. until 3 p.m., get free backpacks and basic school supplies for students in grades 1-8. There will be a free dental clinic, including exams, sealants, and x-rays. Applications for dental services can be obtained at the Center Township Trustee’s Office. There also will be free health screenings, free community service education materials, free hot dogs, and free boys’ haircuts.
Haworth Class of ‘80
The Haworth High School Class of 1980 will hold its 45th Reunion on Sat., Aug. 2, from 5-9 p.m. at the Columbian Club of Kokomo, 1631 Foxfire Lane, at the Wildcat Creek Golf Course. Catch up with classmates, reminisce about the “good old days,” and make new memories. The evening will include a cash bar, a catered dinner by Rozzi’s Catering, and a music and mingle time. Creamed Corn Chug
The Literacy Coalition of Howard County will take center stage at the 2025 Floating Lantern and Foodie Feast-ival at Beaver Point Campground in Windfall on Sat., Aug. 2, at 7 p.m. It will be the recipient of proceeds from a creamed corn chugging contest fundraiser. Participants will pay $25 to prove they are the fastest at consuming a 60 oz. pitcher of creamed corn. The fastest, cleanest chug will take the title. Water Walking
Kokomo Beach will be open for Water Walking Aug. 4-8 from 9-9:45 a.m. and 6-6:45 p.m. the facility is closed for daily operation during that week. Water Walking is open to adults ages 18 and up only.

Blind Tiger Comedy Open Mic
The Blind Tiger Comedy Open Mic show takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at the Elbow Room, 1004 N. Washington St. The next open mic night will be held on Aug. 6. This event is free to attend, and you are welcome to try your hand at comedy.

Jammin’ 4 the Camp
Join Professional Firefighters of Kokomo Local 396 on Sat., Aug. 9, for Jammin’ 4 the Camp, a Jeep Jam to benefit the Hoosier Burn Camp. From 5-10 p.m. in Foster Park, Jeep owners and their families will take part in a fun day in the park, and the public is welcome to attend. Music will be provided by Mast American Guitar and Ike ‘n’ Rory & the Rhythm Riders. There will be local food trucks, a beer tent, and a 50/50 raffle.

Curtain Call Audition
Curtain Call Theatre for Children will hold auditions for “Big Fish: School Edition” on Sat., Aug. 16, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Curtain Call Studio, 2114 N. Armstrong St. Anyone interested in auditioning must sign up for a time slot. Each audition time is 30 minutes and will include up to 10 people. Each person auditioning needs to prepare a song of two minutes or less to perform individually. There also will be a group dance audition. Military Foundation Softball Showdown
The Military Foundation, a nonprofit organization aiding veterans in Howard, Miami, Cass and Tipton counties, will hold its ninth annual charity softball games on Sat., Aug. 16, at Kokomo Municipal Stadium in downtown Kokomo. Community Howard Golf Outing
The Community Howard Regional Health Foundation will hold its 24th annual Golf Outing on Wed., Aug. 20, at Chippendale Golf Course. IU Kokomo Volleyball 2025-26
The Indiana University Kokomo volleyball program has officially released its 2025 regular season schedule, as the Cougars are coming off of a 2024 season that saw them earn a second-consecutive NAIA "Sweet 16" finish. Head coach Heather Hayes's squad is set to play 13 regular season matches inside the Student Activities & Events Center on the campus of IUK in 2025, including seven River States Conference matches. The first home match of the season takes place, Wed., Aug. 20, at 6 p.m. against Bethel College. The Cougars will host the 2025 IU Kokomo Volleyball Invitational Sept. 5-6, and the team has home dates on Sept. 26-27, Oct. 3-4, Oct. 24-25, and Oct. 30-31. Cougar Classic 5K
Support the Indiana University Kokomo cross-country and track and field teams by participating in the Cougar Classic 5K race/walk on Sat., Aug. 30. The Senior Games
The Area Five Agency on Aging and Community Services is planning to offer the Senior Games, a celebration of the strength, spirit, and community of senior citizens. The Senior Games will be held throughout September across the Area Five region. In Kokomo, the Senior Games will take place Wed., Sept. 17. The Family Service Association’s 2025 Angel Walk will take place Tue., Sept. 30, on the Indiana University Kokomo campus, 2300 S.
