Free Summer Food Bags
This summer, all Tipton County families with kids under age 17 can register to pick up a free weekly food bag. From May 27 through Aug. 2, the bags will be available at the Tipton County Family Resource Center, 3021 W. Old St. (Ind. 28), as well as the Boys and Girls Club, and the Love Bug Café, 222 S. Independence St. The pick-up times are Mondays from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. Each bag includes shelf-stable, kid-friendly food items along with a voucher for hot food from The Love Bug Café. Open Mic Stand Up Comedy

Rising Star Vocal Competition

YMCA Summer Camp 2025
Registration is now open for the Kokomo Family YMCA’s Summer Camp at Camp Tycony. Finalize your summer plans and register your child for the best summer ever. Your child will have the opportunity to explore nature on 52 beautiful acres, which include hiking trails, ponds, wooded areas, and a new ROPES COURSE! They will discover new talents, try various activities, gain independence, and form lasting friendships and memories. Summer Camp begins on June 2, and spots are expected to fill up quickly! Blind Tiger Comedy Open Mic
The Blind Tiger Comedy Open Mic show takes place on the first Wednesday of each month at the Elbow Room, 1004 N. Washington St. The next open mic night will be held on June 4. This event is free to attend, and you are welcome to try your hand at comedy.
KSO TV Dinner
The Kokomo Symphony Orchestra will hold its sixth annual TV Dinner Fundraiser on Sat., June 7, at The Hobson, 110 N. Washington St. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a performance from the KSO Quartet. The theme of this year’s sing-along celebration is the Wild West. Join the KSO for dinner and music, trivia, live and silent auctions, and more. KATS Youth Athletic Camps
Kokomo High School will offer action-packed summer with its youth athletic KATS - Kids Active Training and Skills - Camps, featuring an incredible lineup of programs designed to keep kids active and engaged throughout the summer while inspiring and developing young athletes. Throughout June and July, expert coaching will be offered in baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, speed and strength training, tennis, and track and field, as well as a youth wrestling clinic, with former Iowa University standouts. Adult Summer Reading Program
The Greentown Public Library, 421 S. Harrison St., will hold its annual Adult Summer Reading Program from June 2 through July 11. Themed “Color Our World,” the program invites you to employ your creativity in a variety of artistic activities as you read. Sign up, receive a reading log. Check out books and turn in your registration sheets to get summer started right! Win fantastic prizes by just reading for two hours. On Mondays in June, enjoy Babes in Story Land from 11-11:30 a.m., beginning June 2. This program is designed for children ages 0-2. Every Tuesday in June from 10:30-11:30 a.m. will bring Story Hour for children ages 4-5, beginning June 3. On Thursdays in June from 11-11:30 a.m., relive your favorite Mother Goose tales with your 3-year-olds, beginning June 5. On Mon., June 30, get messy with your preschoolers as you paint as 4th of July t-shirt, beginning at 11 a.m. On Tue., July 1, at 11 a.m., it’s time for your little ones to make friends and explore color. On Thu., July 3, Wrangler and Friends visit the library at 11 a.m. to show how much Wrangler loves color.
Painting at the Greentown Library

Closing the Gap
The Carver Community Center, 1030 N. Purdum St., will hold its annual Closing the Gap Summer Camp from June 3 through July 3. The camp takes place each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. through those dates. The camp provides classes focusing on language, computer skills, reading, mathematics, and STEM. The classes are led by licensed teachers, and instruction is given based on Indiana state standards. Classes will be filled with students selected by academic need, teacher recommendation, and school attendance. A parent must consent to sharing their child’s test scores with Closing the Gap teachers and administrators. This camp is free to attend and is available to children in grades K-5. Wednesdays at the Greentown Library
The Summer Reading Program at the Greentown Public Library, 421 E. Harrison St., is packed with activities for children. Each Wednesday at 1 p.m. through early July, the library will feature special programming. On June 4, Chalk the Block and transform the sidewalk around the library lot into a colorful masterpiece. On June 11, Color Your World with a beautiful porch spinner. On June 18, discover how to make scratch art sheets. Then, design a creation to take home and enjoy. On June 25, create a colorful sun catcher to brighten up any space. On July 2, dive into the MESStival and leave with a messy masterpiece of your own. On July 9, design a one-of-a-kind paper collage placemat using paper scraps. Take it home the same day or leave it to be laminated.
The Uncanny Exhibition
The IU Kokomo Art Gallery is searching for something strange. The Uncanny Exhibition will take place June 4-25, and the gallery is inviting artists to submit their unnatural or otherworldly artwork. Fridays at the Greentown Library
The Summer Reading Program at the Greentown Public Library, 421 E. Harrison St., is packed with activities for children. Each Friday at 1 p.m. through early July, the library will feature special programming. On June 6, dress up in your brightest colors and get ready for a Technicolor Dance Party. This event will include black lights, strobe lights, and loud music. On June 13, head to Suburban Lanes in Tipton for an afternoon of Cosmic Bowling under the disco lights, complete with booming music and tons of fun. On June 20, go Somewhere Over the Rainbow with library. Follow the yellow brick road and gather all the pieces needed to create a rainbow craft. Don’t miss this choose-you-own-adventure experience! On June 27, declare a Color War! Meet on the Comet Trail near the T-ball field to jog through rainbow clouds, then cool off with a splash on the library lawn. On July 11, it’s time to taste the rainbow, wrapping up the reading program with rainbow-themed snacks.
Skateboarding Lessons
The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department will offer skateboarding lessons this summer. Registration is open now until June 6 by visiting the KPRD office in Highland Park. The cost of the lessons is $30, and the class dates are June 11, 18, 25, and July 2, 9, 16. Class time is 8:30-9:30 a.m. Elbow and knee pads and helmets can be provided, but participants are encouraged to bring their own.
Line Dancing
The Carver Community Center, 1030 N. Purdum St., holds a free Line Dancing class the first Saturday of each month, taught by Tina Robinson. Summerfest Weekend
Summerfest Weekend returns to Kokomo June 20-22, featuring entertainment, food, and shared experiences. And the celebration is already underway! Carvers Club Exhibition
The Greentown Public Library, 421 S Harrison St., will feature works from the Eastern Woodland Carvers Club in an exhibition from June 8-15. Visit the Library Community Room during normal operating hours to experience the beauty and skill of hand-carved masterpieces, from intricate sculptures to stunning woodworks, all created by talented artisans. On Thu., June 12, from 6-7 p.m., meet the artists while enjoying creative inspiration and light refreshments.
Ignite Your Future Camp
Indiana University Kokomo will host Ignite Your Future Camp on June 9-12, and it is looking for alumni volunteers willing to help inspire middle schoolers through hands-on career exploration, self-awareness, and college readiness activities. Soupley’s Wine and Spirits will team up with DSI Together with Bona Vista to present the annual Birdies, Bourbons, and Beers Golf Classic on Fri., June 13. Greentown Glass Festival
The Greentown Main Street Association announces the Greentown Glass Festival, scheduled for June 14, from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. in downtown Greentown. The event is co-sponsored by First Farmers Bank and Trust. Enjoy nine restaurants within one block of downtown, along with food and craft vendors, a kid zone, a parade, local bands in concert, a car show, and more. Vendor space is available now. Yoga in the Park
The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department welcomes back Yoga in the Park, featuring 11 free yoga sessions in three different public parks. The sessions are open to all skill levels and are totally free to the public. Classes will take place in Jackson Morrow Park at the shelter from 6-7 p.m. on Sat., June 14, July 12, Aug. 9, and Sept. 20. Highland Park will host classes at the Earthen Stage from 8-9 a.m. on Sat., June 21, July 19, and Aug. 2. Foster Park will feature yoga at the Performing Arts Pavilion from 8-9 a.m. on Sat., June 28, July 16, Aug. 23, and Sept. 6. KPRD does not supply mats or other equipment.
Creamed Corn Chug
The Literacy Coalition of Howard County will take center stage at the 2025 Floating Lantern and Foodie Feast-ival at Beaver Point Campground in Windfall on June 14 at 7 p.m. It will be the recipient of proceeds from a creamed corn chugging contest fundraiser. Participants will pay $25 to prove they are the fastest at consuming a 60 oz. pitcher of creamed corn. The fastest, cleanest chug will take the title. LEGOs at the Greentown Library
Throughout June, the Greentown Public Library, 421 S. Harrison St., will hold special programming each Monday from 2-3 p.m. On Mon., June 16, build, design, and create with LEGOs. Explore the exciting world of building and architecture, using your imagination to construct amazing structures with LEGOs, which must remain in the library.
Super Explorers Camp
The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department will offer its Super Explorers and Junior Super Explorers camps this summer. The Junior Super Explorers Camp runs from June 16-20 for children ages 5-8. Lilly Scholarship Information Night
The Community Foundation Serving Howard, Clinton and Carroll Counties will hold a Lilly Scholarship Information Night on Tue., June 17. This session, designed for seniors in the Class of 2026, will take place in Hingst Hall on the Ivy Tech Community College campus in Kokomo, 1815 E. Morgan St. Receive an overview of the Lilly Endowment Community Scholarship and learn about eligibility and application requirements. Also learn tips for submitting a strong application. Juneteenth Summer Celebration
Join the Kokomo Housing Authority and Carver Community Center on Saturday, June 21, from 4-10 p.m. for a vibrant day filled with delicious food vendors, unique merchandise booths, exciting kids’ activities, quarter Bingo fun, and live entertainment. The event will take place around the courthouse square in downtown Kokomo. As part of the event, "The Best of Kokomo" Food Contest will take place. Haynes-Apperson 5K
Registration for the Haynes-Apperson 5K is open now! On Sat., July 5, runners and walkers will travel the scenic course through downtown Kokomo and Foster Park along the Walk of Excellence Trail. Super Explorers Camps
The Kokomo Parks and Recreation Department is expanding its Super Explorers Camp this year, offering two sessions of both Junior and Senior Super Explorers Camps. Registration for the second camps sessions is open now. Junior Super Explorers for children ages 5-8 will be July 7-11, and Senior Super Explorers for children ages 9-11 takes place July 14-18. Kokomo’s Funniest Comedian
Calling all comedians! Rhine Hall Entertainment and Event Venue will hold its second annual Kokomo’s Funniest Comedian competition every Friday evening in September, with a grand finale taking place Oct. 3. Registration is open now for comedians seeking to compete. Registration deadline is July 28. Submit your three-minute performance video to rhinehall.gary@gmail.com. Each week, a panel of judges will select a winner from a round of competition who will advance to the finals. Those in attendance also have a chance to advance a comedian through people’s choice voting. The winning comedian will receive a $500 cash prize, a trophy, and paying gigs at an upcoming Rhine Hall comedy showcase and as the host of the 2026 competition.

Tailgate at the Library
Join the Greentown Public Library on Fri., Aug. 22, for a tailgate party to celebrate the return of football to Eastern High School. Grab a free hot dog and chips at the library’s table, which will be located at the west end of the football field.
The Senior Games
The Area Five Agency on Aging and Community Services is planning to offer the Senior Games, a celebration of the strength, spirit, and community of senior citizens. The Senior Games will be held throughout September across the Area Five region. In Kokomo, the Senior Games will take place Wed., Sept. 17. Area Five is currently seeking donations from the community to help make this event a success.
