A plan to build townhomes on the city’s southwest side came to a full stop on Aug. 8 as the Kokomo Common Council voted unanimously to deny a rezoning for the development. The flipped vote came after residents of a nearby subdivision argued against the proposed change in land use.

The rezoning, requested by Dr. John Ladd, DDS., would have converted a 2.2-acre plot of land at 2331 W. Lincoln Road next to his dental office from commercial to residential property, allowing for the construction of as many as 30 townhomes. The move faced opposition at every stage from residents of the Executive Place subdivision which abuts the property.
