Russiaville knows how to move. The Kokomo Howard County Public Library celebrated National Library Week on April 13 with a “Dance Across Russiaville” event, coupled with a load of great community activities.
The dance took place simultaneously at the Russiaville branch of the library and the Russiaville Lions Club as groups of groovers and shakers strutted a mile across town to meet in the middle while showing off their moves.
The dancers at the library got a bit of a warm-up session with a brief Drums Alive! routine. Participants struck exercise balls with drumsticks as they moved to music. The dancers at the Lions Club were tempted by the aroma of a hearty breakfast of pancakes, bacon, and breakfast casserole, prepared by the members of Boy Scouts Troop 619, an all-girls troop. The troop is raising funds for an Adventure Camp trip to Iceland this summer.
Once the dancing was complete, participants in the Gene Parks One-Mile and 5K Run/Walk lined up for action. They received rousing encouragement from members of Ainsley’s Angels who benefitted from the run/walk fundraiser. A portion of the funds raised also was devoted to the Carl Koontz Community Scholarship Fund.
The event concluded at Russiaville’s Jeff Stout Community Center, where runners and walkers got a look at the future of the adjoining park. The proposed inclusive playground was staked out, as were the planned pavilion and restroom facility.
