When Bob Davis was a child, he looked up to his father. That isn’t unusual. Many children envision their parents as role models. The lessons they learn by following the examples set before them shape who they are as adults.
After 45 years of service with the Howard County Department of Emergency Management (EMA), it is obvious that Davis learned those lessons well.
Bob Davis is known for answering the call when EMA is needed.
“My dad, if he saw someone needed help, he didn’t wait to be asked,” said Davis. “He went and offered to help or just pitched in. I follow his example. I really believe people have an obligation to volunteer. I don’t care if that means volunteering with youth baseball or Scouting or church or school.
“At some time during your life, somebody volunteered their time and gave you an opportunity to do things that you may not ever had the opportunity for otherwise. I believe we have an obligation to be that volunteer.”
