A local attorney facing drunk driving charges in Hamilton County has filed a plea in his case. Craig Dechert was charged with OWI Endangering a Person on June 30, 2022, as a result of a May 23, 2022, incident in which he allegedly struck a motorcyclist, causing severe injuries to the riders.
According to a filing made on June 22 of this year, Dechert has entered a guilty plea in Hamilton Superior Court 3. The judge in the case will consider the change of plea on July 6.
Dechert was facing three charges: Causing Serious Bodily Injury When Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (Level 5 Felony); OWI Endangering a Person (Class A Misdemeanor); and Operating a Vehicle with an ACE of .15 or More (Class A Misdemeanor). He was scheduled to go to trial on July 5.
Dechert was driving a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse when he allegedly struck a motorcycle at the intersection of 266th Street and U.S. 31 in May 2022. As a result, the passengers on the motorcycle, Domanic and Amanda Robson, suffered injuries. The Robsons filed civil suits against Dechert; Amanda in July 2022, Domanic in September 2022. An undisclosed out-of-court settlement was reached in both cases. Domanic’s was dismissed on Feb. 7. Amanda settled with Dechert on March 16.
KHCPL holds a foam party
The open field next to the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s south branch was jam-packed last week. An overflow crowd of far more than 500 gathered on June 15 to let their kids go wild in a mountain of suds.
The library held a Foam Happy Party as part of its Summer Reading Program, and to say it was a success would be a gross understatement. The crowd dwarfed the turn-out for last year’s rendition of the event; so much so that the kids had to be separated into age groups to ensure everyone got a chance to play in the foam.
And after the kids had their fun, their furry friends got a turn in the foam. The library held a short session for dogs, and the canines hit the suds with the same enthusiasm shown by the kids.
