Despite colder temperatures on Oct. 6, downtown Kokomo was filled with Halloween celebrants as the First Friday Halloween Masquerade spilled out on the streets of Kokomo. With several events going on, there was something for everyone.
The First Friday event coincided with the annual Hawgin’ the Block street party sponsored by Bridges Outreach on Main Street, and the annual return of Glo’ in the ‘Mo, a 5K race with a party atmosphere that started and finished in front of the Kokomo Family YMCA on Union Street.
Nick Glover, YMCA Operations Officer and race administrator, said that this year's race had 279 registered participants.
While not going very fast, but still moving, the Kokomo Howard County Public Library's Zombie Walk wandered through the festivities as the more than 20 undead participants walked from the North Union Street location up around the square and back.
The Kokomo Art Association's Artworks Gallery featured the stylings of Xan Hughes on his Moog Theremin, an instrument associated with sci-fi music with its eerie melodies.
The Halloween revelers brought out their pets as well, dressed in animal finery with fairy and bat wings being quite popular. The Kokomo Humane Society-sponsored Love Bus was also on hand for individuals who wanted to microchip their pets.
Grace United Methodist Church also got into the Halloween Spirit with an indoor Trunk or Treat along with other stops along Main Street that gave out treats to children and adults alike.
