More than 100 runners, walkers, and wheelers turned out on Sept. 10 to take some steps for Gilead House in Kokomo. The non-profit held its annual Steps to Recovery 5K fundraiser, and the participants raced to show their support.
The event began on Sycamore Street in front of the Gilead House and wound through downtown along the Wildcat Walk of Excellence. One enthusiastic group — Ainsley’s Angels in Indiana — kicked off the event with their pink and black strollers. The group, which raises awareness for the special needs community, was given a two-minute head start on the field.
Before the event concluded, those in attendance were treated to music from a live DJ, food, fellowship, and information about Gilead House and its mission, which is to restore and rebuild individuals and families.
Founded by Reba Harris in 1998, Gilead House offers outreach programs and services to women, as well as men and children, who are struggling with or recovering from addiction. It advocates for hundreds of clients each year, in the courtroom and the community. For additional information, visit the Gilead House website.
