Soap suds rolled like tumbleweeds across the grass beside the Kokomo Howard County Public Library’s south branch on July 19. It hosted Foam Parties for kids and dogs, much to the delight of dozens upon dozens of families seeking a reprieve from the summer heat.
The fluffy white bubbles filled the air, thanks to the Foam Daddy Cannon the library deployed for the event. The canines got a morning session, and most of them frolicked with their owners through the mountains of foam. A few doggos were a bit timid when faced with the unusual sight. But eventually every one of them got a bit sudsy.
The afternoon session was for the kids, and they showed up by the busload. Dancing to fun tunes as the foam cannon fired clouds of soap, the children immersed themselves in the moment, wearing the suds like the latest styles on the Fashion Week runway. A few looked like miniature Abominable Snowmen as they applied a heavy coat of foam.
The library held a third Foam Party for teens and adults that evening at its main branch. Sadly the Lantern was partied out by that time. But if the first two events were any indication, the grown-up version was a rousing success as well.
The Foam Parties were part of KHCPL’s ambitious Summer Reading Program, which boasts more than 1,000 participants this year. While there are only a couple weeks left in the program, there are still plenty of special events planned, including an Animal Crossing-style Island Hop Party this afternoon, Under the Sea Mermaid Fun, Paint With Me!, and STEM Thursdays: Discover Sharks on July 21, a sea-themed escape room on July 22, and much more.
