How to Keep What You Have
Regular vehicle maintenance keeps you from spending way too much money later.
In 1976 my first new car cost $5000, tax included. Of course in 2024 you would figure that after all these years a new car would cost more. But new cars and truck prices have increased 60% IN THE LAST TEN YEARS, and that’s if you can find one. Dealers all claim new car inventory is still low, unless you want to spend north of $90,000 for one loaded up with options.
Used vehicles are in the same boat. Prices in used vehicles increased during the pandemic because new ones were hard to get due to parts shortages.
So finding an affordable vehicle, new or used, is a daunting, expensive task. Interest rates are high. Credit is harder to get for financing primarily due to purchasers buying overpriced vehicles then finding they can't keep up the payments. In fact we have a vehicle repossession boom going on right now.
The time is right to keep what you drive now, and maintain it to last for a while.
Several years ago Doug Terrell, founder of McQuick’s and now a local Jiffy Lube franchisee was interviewed by his hometown magazine. He was quoted as saying, "People tend to drive their cars until they break," adding, "if you follow the manufacturers recommendations they will run forever." The magazine article pointed out that Terrell had in his stable of cars a, "Chrysler Mini-Van with 279,000 miles on it."
Terrell knows how to maintain a car. He and his family basically started the quick auto lube business in the Midwest. Now daughter Rachel, son-in law Evan Williams and son Chad are running Indiana Auto Care Jiffy Lube. They practice the same diligent maintenance on their vehicles as they practice at your local Kokomo Jiffy Lubes.
Who knows what will happen with car prices in the near future? It's time to take care of what you have, and keep it. And when it's time to take your car in for oil changes, wipers, batteries and tires it will pay you in the long run to stick with the family that knows how to take care of a vehicle, and make it last, Indiana Auto Care Jiffy Lube.
Visit one of your Kokomo Jiffy Lubes: 1226 East Markland Avenue, and 3711 South Reed Road, 931 and let them help you keep the vehicle that you have running for a long time to come.
