The Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is accepting input from the public until Jan. 21 on its five-year transportation plan. The State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) includes all projects that will receive federal funding from 2022-2026. Kokomo and Howard County have approximately $2 million in projects included in the plan.

“Whatever INDOT does directly affects Kokomo,” said Kokomo-Howard County Governmental Coordinating Council executive director Tammy Corn. “The city, county, and the local planning agency get money from them for projects; just over $2 million a year.”
“A lot of our construction projects are dependent upon this funding,” added Kokomo Mayor Tyler Moore. “Our bridge repairs, changes to access to 931, and other projects happen because of the STIP.”
Citizens may review the plan by visiting www.in.gov/indot/STIP and make comments on it through an online form, email, or physical mail. Those comments may pertain to items within the proposed STIP or transportation concerns or projects participants would like to see addressed.
