It long has been known as one of the largest fairs in the state of Indiana. Thousands descend upon the Howard County 4-H Fairgrounds in Greentown each July to enjoy food, rides, music, and seemingly endless entertainment, and the 2025 edition is sure to deliver on expectations.
There are several events worth highlighting each day. Starting with Mon., July 7, the Knight of Destruction will offer monster truck rides from 5-10 p.m. That’s right. You and your friends can hop in the back of an actual monster truck and experience a spinning, high-speed trip.
If that wasn’t enough of a motorized thrill, Monday and Tuesday are the evenings for drag racing. KOI Drag Racing will take over the Northwest Grandstands, and it’s more than a show. It’s an open event where anyone with the nerve to participate can bring their hotrods, dirt bikes, and even semis to race.
There will be 12 different competitive classes, and registration for competition begins at 5 p.m. each evening. After a practice session, main event racing begins at 7 p.m. Admission for viewing the drag races is $10 at the main gate or $20 for pit access. For more information, visit the fair’s website or www.koidragracing.com.
Monday is also the night for the Little Miss Howard County Princess Pageant, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the South Grandstands. And the active wear segment of the Miss Howard County Queen Pageant begins at 8 p.m. at the South Grandstands.
Tuesday marks the opening of the Midway rides at 3 p.m. They operate until 10 p.m. Wristbands are available for $30 each evening, though riders can receive a $5 discount if they purchase their wristbands before midnight on July 7. The wristbands can be purchased on the fair’s website. On Wed., July 9, wristbands aren’t required as each ride is just $2. The Midway opens early on Sat., July 12, running from noon until 6 p.m.
Also on Tuesday, the Miss Howard County Junior Queen Pageant takes place at 6 p.m. at the South Grandstands, followed by the crowning of Miss Howard County Queen at 8 p.m. And on the North Stage, the Medicinal Bluegrass Band plays at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, July 9, features the fair’s talent show. Check-in for contestants begins at 6:30 p.m. for a 7 p.m. show at the South Grandstands. Applications for competition are available now on the fair’s website and are accepted through July 8.
There are two age divisions for the talent show – Junior (12 and under) and Senior (ages 13-21). There are 12 categories in the competition, including solo and group vocals and instrumentals, solo and group dancing and novelty acts, solo and group tumbling, and solo and group clogging. Cheerleading, baton twirling, and any acts involving fire, dry ice, or fog are not allowed.
Also on Wednesday, the Supreme Showmanship competition takes place in the Livestock Pavilion at 7 p.m. The Cumberland Gap Bluegrass Band takes the North Stage at 7 p.m., and the antique tractor and lawn mower pull competitions dominate the Northwest Grandstands starting at 7 p.m.
Thursday hosts the Livestock Auction, beginning at 5 p.m. Sonic Union performs on the North Stage at 7 p.m. The big truck and tractor pull starts at 7 p.m. at the Northwest grandstands, with tickets available at the main gate for $15. And legendary Indiana band The Flying Toasters perform at the South Grandstands at 8 p.m.
Friday continues the fun with the Eel River Band performing on the North Stage at 7 p.m. The truck and tractor pull continues at the Northwest Grandstands, beginning at 7 p.m. Again, tickets are available at the main gate for $15. And at 8 p.m. Casi Joy headlines the evening at the South Grandstands.
Casi Joy is an up-and-coming Country music sensation, hitting the scene through her performance on NBC’s The Voice. She has had singles hit the iTunes Top 100 charts, and her album “The Bright Side,” debuted at No. 19.
The fair wraps up on Sat., July 12, with Autocross at the Northwest Grandstands at 7 p.m. Cora Kendall performs on the North Stage at 7 p.m. And Greentown’s own Keyton Romero headlines the South Grandstands at 8 p.m.
