Ivy Tech offering solar training
One-week program trains students for solar energy construction jobs
As hiring ramps up to staff construction of an 1,800-acre solar energy project in Clinton County, Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo is offering a four-day training program for prospective employees.
Working in partnership with Local 873 of the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and WorkOne West Central, Ivy Tech is presenting a class that introduces students to construction safety, basic electrical and photovoltaic principals and the basic tools used in the solar industry as well as in the workforce readiness skills sought by employers.
New sessions of the course start each Monday. The class meets Monday through Thursday from 4 to 9:50 p.m. on the Ivy Tech Kokomo Campus at 1815 E. Morgan St. There are no prerequisites; experience in the electrical industry is helpful but not required. Grant funding is available to pay tuition for those who qualify.
For registration and additional information, contact Bonnie Devers, program manager in Ivy Tech Kokomo’s Career Coaching & Employer Connections division, at bdevers3@ivytech.edu or (765) 252-5497.
