Jail evacuates due to fire
Sheriff says inmate tampered with electrical outlet, causing a small fire
The Howard County Jail was evacuated earlier today following the report of a fire at the facility. The incident was handled quickly and without damage or injury.
According to Howard County Sheriff Jerry Asher, a small fire was started by an inmate who was tampering with an electrical outlet. The fire was extinguished quickly, but the housing unit in which the inmate resided was evacuated as a precaution.
The Kokomo Fire Department was dispatched to the jail but was not needed. Reports of power outages at the jail and the surrounding area as a result of the fire have not been confirmed to the Kokomo Lantern.
