The grapplers from Eastern High School traveled to Kokomo on Wednesday evening to take on the wrestling Wildkats, and the home team prevailed in boys and girls varsity wrestling action on Nov. 29 with a 60-21 score.
This was the first contest of the season for Kokomo, and the wrestlers came out strong, pinning eight opponents. Eastern pinned four, while only a single contest went the distance. Kokomo’s X’Avion Ford dropped a 3-2 decision at 132 lbs.
In girls wrestling, Kokomo’s Abbi Jackson (125 lbs.), Makyila Rubush (135 lbs.), and D’Jounay Ramos (140 lbs.) won via pin. Maria Escalona (115 lbs.) lost via pin. Note that the girls’ results were not included in the final varsity score. The Kokomo girls won, 18-6.
In the boys’ match-up, Dorrian Barbour (106 lbs.), Gabe Newland (138 lbs.), David Conner (144 lbs.), Stacy Rund (165 lbs.), and Chad Washburn (190 lbs.) won via pin. Eastern was victorious via pin at 175 lbs., 215 lbs., and heavyweight.
The Wildkats return to action today as the varsity girls travel to compete in the 6th Annual Sarah Hildebrandt Invitational. The boys are at Lake Central High School today, competing in the 43rd Annual Lake Harvest Classic.
