Kokomo takes aim at dilapidated properties
Two houses slated for demolition, two for city cleaning
The Kokomo Board of Works and Public Safety took action on several properties that have not been maintained by their owners. Bids for demolition were received for two properties. Demolition was approved for another three properties. And two properties will receive a visit from city clean-up crews.
Demolition bids
321 S. Courtland Ave.
The first house, at 321 S. Courtland Ave., received bids from Merritt and Son Excavating in the amount of $14,500, Vincent Concrete in the amount of $16,955, Yardberry Landscaping and Excavation in the amount of $14,000, and Alliance Excavating and Demolition in the amount of $15,860.
436 S. Indiana St.
The second house, located at 436 S. Indiana St., received bids from Merritt and Son Excavating in the amount of $11,000, Vincent Concrete in the amount of $12,375, Yardberry Landsccaping and Excavating in the amount of $13,500, and Alliance Excavating in the amount of $9,980.
The board took the bids under advisement and is expected to award the contract at its Jan. 26 meeting.
Contracts awarded
Three demolition projects which received bids on Jan. 12 were awarded by the board. All three projects – 913 S. Webster St., 1114 E. Mulberry St., and 1341 S. Waugh St. – were awarded to the low bidder, Vincent Concrete.
Clean-up crews
1354-56 S. Waugh St.
The board authorized clean up of two properties that had been abated previously by the Kokomo Department of Inspections. Workers from the Kokomo Street Department soon will remove waste and other items from 1354-56 S. Waugh St. and 719 S. Brandon St.
