Jeannine Lee Lake loves her country and wants everyone to have equal opportunities and protections in order to live the American Dream. To ensure this is a reality, she is running for U.S. Congress in the Fifth District as a Democrat.
This is her third campaign for a Congressional seat, running in 2018 and 2020 against 6th Dist. Congressman Greg Pence. When the state legislature redrew political lines this year, Lake’s Muncie home fell into the 5th District along with eastern Howard County, prompting her run against incumbent Victoria Spartz.
“I am a great leader and will be an effective U.S. Congresswoman,” said Lake. “I love serving people and enjoy finding solutions. One of my best qualities is reaching out to people who are different than me. I ‘play well’ with everyone, whether it’s Indiana Democrats, Hoosier Republicans, Independents, or Libertarians. Some call me a ‘uniter,’ and I take pride in striving to bring together great people.”
The 30-year, veteran journalist identified issues she feels are most important to her and the citizens of the 5th District. Foremost among them are reproductive rights.
“More than anything right now, I’m concerned that Victoria Spartz wants to take away reproductive rights of women,” said Lake. “She’s supporting a 100-percent total abortIon ban that does not allow choices even in cases of rape, incest and life of the mother.”
Lake explained that she holds a strong desire to improve the nation’s access to affordable healthcare, especially in light of the recent pandemic
“I want to help address issues related to the pandemic and find solutions for those problems,” said Lake. “Particularly, I want to address economic concerns for small business owners like myself, including healthcare disparities, from high prescription costs to lack of access to affordable healthcare.”
And Lake is interested in finding ways to reduce the gun violence that has saturated the country without impinging on Americans’ 2nd Amendment rights.
“I want to review and create common-sense legislation that targets Red Flag laws and a national networking system,” said Lake. “But I want to do so in a way that does not violate laws that truly respect the Constitutional rights of Hoosier gun-owners. Over 95 percent of Hoosiers want leaders to figure out this problem, and I know we can.
“I am a proud freedom fighter, whether that’s fighting for the 2nd Amendment, being pro-choice, or for unions and employees. I believe in Hoosiers living their best lives free from government overreach.”
