Comedy returns to Kokomo this weekend as the Rhine Hall Entertainment and Event Venue, 507 N. Union St., hosts the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Night on Fri., Jan. 26 and Sat., Jan. 27.
The evenings will feature former Kokomo transplant and nationally recognized comedian Dan West as host of the evening. He will be joined by comedians Brent Terhune and Gwen Sunkel on stage. Local comedian Randy Mauer also will perform.
Terhune is known as a laid-back comic, lauded for his humorous mix of blue-collar attitude and political satire. He was named one of thj "10 Comics to Watch" by Variety Magazine in 2020 and has more than 65 million views across his various social media channels. He currently is a comedy writer for the syndicated "Bob and Tom Show" and has released two comedy albums during his career.
Sunkel is based in Indianapolis, where she serves as an event emcee and character actor. She can been seen on stage regularly at the Helium Comedy Club and the White Rabbit Cabaret. Her debut album, "No More Tears" debuted at No. 1 on the Apple Music and Amazon charts in 2023.
She is also a producer of Middle Ground Comedy Festival and has hosted a series of benefit shows that raised more than $15,000 for reproductive health organizations in the Midwest.
West, the host of the event, is a successful comedian who regualrly tours the national comedy circuit, though he is most at home in the Midwest as well as California, which may seem contradictory. A former veteran of the U.S. Army, West taps into life's many adversities to find humor. He also is known to wax nostalgic while telling humorous stories, and has a penchant for "whiskey, kittens, and long walks on the beach (as long as those walks include whiskey and kittens."
Doors open at 6:15 p.m., and the events begin at 7 p.m. each evening. Tickets are still available for both performances at $20 each. Get tickets now by visiting www.rhinehallevents.com and clicking on Events, or by calling 765-210-8210.
Beth White to run for Indiana Attorney General
Beth White, a former elected official, longtime attorney and advocate, is announced her candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Indiana Attorney General last week.
“Hoosiers deserve an Attorney General who will focus on protecting their rights, rather than trying to take them away,” said White, who has been an attorney for more than 30 years. “My entire career has been about fighting to protect Hoosiers—kids, crime victims, and voters. I’ve taken on the tough, meaningful fights and that’s what I will do as Indiana’s next Attorney General.”
White currently serves as the president and CEO of the Indiana Coalition to End Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking. She has previously led the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee and served two terms as the elected Marion County Clerk, where she presided over 14 elections and was the first clerk in Indiana to marry same-sex couples following the Obergefell decision.
She previously served as chief counsel for the Indiana Department of Child Services and the Indiana Department of Workforce Development and was public access counsel and director of constituent services for the City of Indianapolis as well as a deputy prosecutor in the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.
“Attorney General Todd Rokita is more interested in political grandstanding than doing his job. His ideologically driven lawsuits are a waste of taxpayer money, and his attacks on private citizens are disgraceful. Rokita's ongoing disciplinary saga further underscores his inability to execute the duties of one of the most important elected offices in our state,” added White. “This is a serious job, there is serious work to do, and I’m ready to do it. As a mom, wife and daughter, I know what it means to fight to protect my family. It’s time for the Attorney General to get back to the business of serving Hoosier families.”
As Attorney General, White will focus on protecting all Hoosiers from abuse, neglect, and fraud. Her priorities include stopping human trafficking and child predators, going after organizations that defraud and abuse seniors and expanding the office’s consumer protection efforts especially as it relates to protecting private reproductive healthcare information.
White earned her undergraduate degree from Indiana University and her law degree from Georgetown University. A native of Bloomington, she is a member of the Indianapolis Bar Association, an associate faculty member at IUPUI, and is an active member of Central Christian Church. She lives in Indianapolis with her husband and son.
