Friends, family, and ambassadors from the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce wandered west last week to welcome the new owners of the Legacy Barn at Leafy Lane Farm with an open house and ribbon cutting.
Purchased earlier this year from founders Colin and Colleen Craig, new Legacy Barn owners Amy and Tyler Barnes will operate the wedding and event venue; the culmination of their dreams of owning a faith-based business.
“This isn’t about us; this is completely a God story,” said Amy Barnes. “We are just really grateful for our family, our friends, and our church family who have supported us. And we are really excited to use this business as an opportunity to pour into the community and to bring people to Jesus and to use it as a ministry to feed Kokomo.”
Legacy Barn, located at 951 N, County Road 600 W, was established in 2015 by the Craigs on the land where Colin’s family had lived for generations. After eight years in operation, the couple was ready to pass along their “Legacy” to new owners.
“We just wanted to save this farm and make it something special,” said Colin Craig. “Through all that process, God had a heavy hand that guided us every which way. We're so pleased now to transition this to someone who's got the energy and the foresight. It's been a great time for us. We're very proud of what we've done and more proud to be able to turn it over to Tyler and Amy.”
Before the crowd broke to experience the Legacy Barn for themselves, Tyler Barnes’ mother, Leanne, spoke about how the Legacy Barn was an answer to prayer for their family.
“We've always kind of joked about having something like this, and Amy, especially, had a dream,” said Leanne. “(Tyler) saw a post about the Legacy Barn up for sale. We kind of thought, oh, this is funny, but it probably won't happen. The next thing you know, Tyler said they’re going to look at it. A few months later, they were the proud owners of the Legacy Barn.
“We are just extremely excited. The passion and the servant hearts that both of these kids have for being in a ministry and blessing people, it's just overwhelming. It's going to be a wonderful thing for our family. And I'm sure with all the support and love they have, there'll be a lot of you involved as well.”
Spread over 10 acres, Legacy Barn can accommodate up to 150 guests for weddings, receptions, graduations, or corporate events. For additional, information, visit www.legacybarn.com.
