Library celebrates Earth Day
A spring breeze joined the employees of the Kokomo Howard County Public Library in welcoming a pack of eager children to take part in Earth Day 2022. Despite the windy weather, the kids took part in activities centered around nature at the celebration in Foster Park on April 22.
From crafts and coloring to a nature scavenger hunt, the library workers offered a variety of options to educate and entertain in honor of environmental awareness.
Christyana Herda was one of the first to dive into the Earth Day fun. Armed with crayons and paper, she set off in search of items in the nature scavenger hunt.
Jameea McCoy-Thompson and her mother, Jerria, used the steps of the stage at Foster Park as an easel for her colorful drawings.
Earth Day originated in 1970 to commemorate the origin of the modern pro-environmental movement. Since its inception, the annual event draws in more than 1 billion participants across more than 190 countries. The Earth Day movement is responsible for the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and Clean Air and Clean Water acts, and the Endangered Species Act.
In more recent times, Earth Day has stood as a yearly moment to initiate efforts in recycling, clean energy, and reversing global warming.
