Lincoln Road development likely dead
Developers have asked for residential rezoning to be pulled, but city council must decide
Today’s article is brought to you by Comics Cubed. Visit Comics Cubed, 121 E. Sycamore St., this Friday, Sept. 23, between noon and 5 p.m. when the Kokomo Howard County Public Library will be on hand to sign up residents for a free library card as part of National Comic Book Day. Those who sign up will receive a free comic book. Those who already have a library card and show it also will receive a free comic book.
The developers of a proposed townhome subdivision along Lincoln Road have chosen to walk away from the project after repeated opposition from nearby residents. But the Kokomo Common Council still will have to vote on the measure at its next meeting on Sept. 26.
The beleaguered development went before the Kokomo Plan Commission on Sept. 13 for a second attempt at approval for rezoning a two-acre plot of land at 2331 W. Lincoln Road from Office Commercial (OC) to General Multifamily Residential (M2). It had passed muster in July and was advanced to the city council with a favorable recommendation, but the council voted it down, sending it back to the plan commission for review.
It won its second favorable recommendation on Sept. 13, with two dissenting votes. But earlier this week, the developers – Tripp Engineering and Consulting, and John Ladd -- notified the plan commission that they no longer will pursue the project, according to plan commission director Greg Sheline.
“Yes, they contacted our office and asked for their rezoning request to be pulled from the council’s agenda,” said Sheline. “But I believe the council will have to take action on the petition anyway.”
