The graduating classes from Indiana University Kokomo, Ivy Tech Community College Kokomo, and Purdue Polytechnic were front and center last week as university students donned their caps and gowns to receive their diplomas.
At IU Kokomo more than 400 students walked across the stage, all hearing the themes of using their gained knowledge to help their communities.
IU Kokomo Chancellor Mark Canada stated, “It is actually pretty simple, the more you know, the more you can help your communities.”
Ivy Tech’s Hingst Hall was the scene of four graduation ceremonies for more than 1,350 students who walked in the celebration, along with the awarding of an honorary Associate of Science in College and Community Service to former Howard County Commissioner and realtor Paul Wyman for his continued community service.
Ivy Tech Kokomo and Logansport Chancellor Dr. Ethan Heicher stated that, “As a businessman, as an elected official, as a leader working to enhance our community’s not-for-profit resources, Paul has championed community uplift. With this honorary degree, we recognize the impact Paul Wyman has had on our community.”
The assembled Purdue Polytechnic Kokomo graduates heard from President and CEO of the Greater Kokomo Chamber of Commerce Lori Dukes as she asked the graduates to consider the opportunities here in their own community with the upcoming industrial expansions of the joint venture of Star Plus Energy before considering employment elsewhere.
