The Kokomo High School Marching Wildkats are back in competition and already are bringing home trophies. The defending Indiana State Fair champions unveiled their 2023 show, "A Young Person's Guide to a Farmer's Life," last Friday night to a receptive and appreciative crowd. Then, they traveled to Muncie Southside on Saturday and won their first contest.
The marching season technically began for the Wildkats in late June, as the student musicians worked through band camp to learn the music and movements. Less than a month later, their show was ready and successful.
The band will seek to repeat their dominance on the field at this year’s Indiana State Fair Band Day on Friday, Aug. 4. Preliminary competition begins at 9 a.m. at the grandstands, and the finals will take place that evening at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the state fair competition are on sale now at www.indianastatefair.com. Admission for the preliminaries is $6 for adults, $2 for children 12 and under. Admission for the finals is $10 for adults, $4 for children 12 and under. A combo ticket for both sessions is also available, costing $13 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. All seating at the event is general admission.
