John Melvin Cardwell
John Melvin Cardwell, age 89, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born to the late Elmer and Lily Mae (Pierce) Cardwell in Kokomo, on September 3, 1933. John married Janet (Beals) Cardwell on February 14, 1953, in Kokomo and she survives.
John graduated from Western High School in 1951. After John and Janet got married and started their family, his main priority was providing and supporting his family. He served the community of Kokomo as a police officer, working alongside his best friend KFD Jimmy Doak, and was the Detective Sergeant for 30 years as well as served as a Howard County Deputy Coroner. John was so dedicated to his career that he did not have set working hours, he stayed until the job was done. John's daughter, Joan, followed in his footsteps and he proudly presented her with her badge as they became the first "Father/Daughter" on the police department. He received "Policeman of the Year" in 1979. He was awarded many accommodations from the FBI, ATF, the governor, and several mayors. John also served as President of the International Association of Auto Theft where he taught several seminars, one being how Chop Shops can disassemble a car in 13 minutes. John was a businessman and entrepreneur owning multiple businesses such as the Union Hotel, a laundromat, four different car lots (one being the land that the Kokomo Fire Department is on), Standard Grocery, Indian Trails Campground, and ventured in real estate. John also worked for Ellers Mortuary for over 20 years. He was known for his work ethic and passed those values down to his family.
Later in life after retirement, he purchased a horse farm in Ocala, Florida and enjoyed spending time there in the winter. John enjoyed spending time with his family, enjoying his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His catchphrases were, "No need to hurry off" and "Call me when you get home".
Surviving is his loving wife of 70 years, Janet; daughter, Joan Dumoulin; three sons, Johnny Melvin Cardwell Jr., Jay Cardwell, and Jeff (Deb) Cardwell; grandchildren, Johnny III (Laura), Daniel "Danny", Kasey (Kenny), Kiley (Nate), Heather (Jake), Courtney, Noah, Jacob, Joshua (Kasey), Jaymes (Lindsay); great grandchildren, Cooper, Lincoln, Kirstie, Karlie, Mckenzie, Summerlynn, Michael, London, Dylan, Brinley, Deacon, Harlynn, Kensington, Kendalyn, Kennedy, Bryella, Brandelle, Vivienne, Kaya, Kendall, Scarlett, Toria, Allisabeth, Bella, Kierstynn, Kaden, Stryder, Ender, Layla; great great grandchildren, Gianna, Riley, Finley, Jaxon, Madalynn, Lilly, Thea, Dean, Raelyn, and Israel; brother, Don (Sue) Cardwell; and sister, Freida Antrim; and many nieces and nephews.
Preceding in death is sister, Phyllis Dausch; brother, Albert Cardwell; grandsons, Israel Cardwell and Adam Cardwell; and granddaughter, Wendy Mates.
There will be a time of visitation for John on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo. The funeral service will be Saturday, August 26, at 11:00 A.M. also at the mortuary. Pastor Jeff Russell will be officiating. Burial will follow to Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Tammy Lorraine (Swanson) Davis
August 18, 2023. Born on June 25, 1969, in Bunker Hill, IN, Tammy was a woman of strength, creativity, and generosity who touched the lives of all who knew her.
Tammy was the cherished daughter of Barbara Swanson and Charles (Tana) Swanson She was a devoted mother to her children, Ashlie Anthony (Jordan Lacy) and Dixie Chandler (Sean Smith), and a doting grandmother to Gabriel, Adalayna, Scarlett, Axel, and Finley. She was a beloved sister to Brandi Gragg. Tammy was preceded in death by her brother, Timothy Wade Swanson; stepmother, Judy Swanson; brother-in-law, Shane Conwell; son-in-law, Steven Chandler; and her grandparents, Barbara Ellen Murphy and John Kelly Murphy.
Tammy was a proud graduate of Tipton High School in Tipton, IN. She furthered her education by earning an Associate’s degree through the University of Phoenix. Her dedication to learning was a testament to her tenacity and resilience.
Tammy's professional life was as diverse as her interests. She worked at Cracker Barrel and Lowes, and she also spent time as a cook. Her work ethic and commitment were admired by her colleagues and friends. Her creativity shone through in her roles, and she was known for her ability to turn any task into an opportunity for innovation.
Tammy's interests were as varied as they were numerous. She loved crocheting, a hobby that showcased her creative spirit. She was an avid fisherwoman and camper, always eager to spend time in the great outdoors. Tammy found joy in spending time with her grandchildren, often playing FortNite with them, creating memories that will be cherished for a lifetime. Her love for her fur baby, Kirby, was evident in the way she took him everywhere with her.
Tammy had a keen eye for aesthetics, often decorating her house with beautiful pieces. She had a special fondness for elephants and sunflowers, symbols of strength and happiness that perfectly represented her spirit. She loved cooking when she was able to, often using it as a way to bring her family together. In her downtime, Tammy enjoyed watching HGTV, drawing inspiration for her own home projects.
Tammy was a woman of many virtues. Her generosity was boundless, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her creativity was evident in everything she did, from her work to her hobbies. But above all, Tammy was loving. Her love for her family was the driving force in her life, and it was this love that will be remembered most.
Tammy Lorraine (Swanson) Davis lived a life full of love, creativity, and generosity. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
James Gregory Mitchell
James Gregory Mitchell, a beloved father, brother, and grandfather, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Kokomo, IN, on August 19, 2023. Born on January 22, 1954, in Kokomo, IN, to Chuck and Shirley Mitchell, James lived a life full of laughter, creativity, and love.
James was a man of many talents, but his passion for cooking led him to a rewarding career as a chef. He was known for his culinary creativity and his ability to create dishes that delighted the palate and warmed the heart. His love for cooking extended beyond the professional kitchen, as he often cooked for his family, creating meals that were not just food, but expressions of his love and care.
In addition to his culinary skills, James was also an avid fisherman. He found peace and tranquility in the quiet moments by the water, rod in hand. His love for fishing was only surpassed by the joy he found in sharing this passion with his two sons, Dakota and Devin. Many of their fondest memories were made on fishing trips and at the Sprint Car races, another of James's favorite pastimes.
James is survived by his two sons, Dakota Mitchell (Olivia) and Devin Mitchell (Alexis). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Eli, Ivory, Millie, and Charlee. His siblings, Richard Mitchell (Espie), Susan Van Horn (Darrell), and Jeff Mitchell (Marcy), will remember their brother for his humor, his handy skills, and his creative spirit. He was preceded in death by his parents, Chuck and Shirley Mitchell, his sister, Tammy Webb, and his brother, Chuck Mitchell.
Those who knew James will remember him as a man who was always ready with a joke, a man who could fix anything with his handy skills, and a man whose creativity shone in everything he did. His laughter was infectious, his heart was generous, and his spirit was indomitable.
James Gregory Mitchell lived a life full of love, laughter, and creativity. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His memory will live on in the hearts of those he left behind, in the dishes he created, in the fish tales he told, and in the roar of the Sprint Car races.
William Joseph Carmichael
William Joseph Carmichael, age 97, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Monday, August 21, 2023.
William was the former president of Union Bank and Trust in Kokomo.
A graveside service for William will be held Friday, August 25, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Sunset Memory Garden Mausoleum, 2097 West Alto Road, Kokomo, Indiana 46902.

Mary E Stapleton
Mary E Stapleton, age 91, of Warsaw, Indiana went to be with the lord on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 7:58 a.m. at Mason's nursing home. Mary was formerly of Kokomo, Indiana.
Mary loved teaching the Bible and praying for others. She enjoyed cooking and making candy. She loved her family and was loved by everyone she came in contact with.
She is survived by her daughter; Monica (Peter) Moon, granddaughter; Bonnie (Curtis Anthony) Graham, great grandchildren; Jaylyn, Jayla, Brooklyn, and Cameron; as well as a bunch of nieces and nephews.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband; Marion "Mike" Stapleton, and her brothers; Carol, George, and Leroy Morrisett, sisters; Opal Ingle and Helen Ingle, parents; Charles and Lura Morrisett.
A public visitation for Mary will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM.

Pamela Bogart
Pamela Bogart, 78, Kokomo, IN, passed away at 12:37 pm on Friday, August 18, 2023, at Waterford Place Health Campus. She was born in Muskogee, OK. on January 17, 1945 from Russell Whitt Parry and Ruth Anne Roberts (Parry). Pam was blessed to have two adoptive father figures in her lifetime, Jack Shelby Allen and Wilfred O. Roberts.
Pam's life was a testament to her dedication to education. She received her bachelor’s degree from Eastern Michigan and master's from Ball State University in Speech Therapy. For over 30 years, she served as a speech therapist at Taylor Community School and in the Florida school systems. Pam was dedicated to her profession and her passion was to ensure every child under her care found their voice.
Pam's family life was as rich and fulfilling as her professional one. She left behind two children with Daniel R. Bogart, Laura Dalpoas (Bogart) and Scott Bogart, along with three grandchildren: Samantha, Cullen, and Dani Dalpoas.
Pam was an avid reader, always in search of a new book to immerse herself in. However, her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and friends. She loved to watch her grandchildren take part in extracurricular activities, such as gymnastics, cheerleading, and baseball. Pam and her grandchildren loved to celebrate her birthdays at Cracker Barrel and celebrate Christmas every winter. Pam cherished these moments, creating memories her loved ones will hold dear forever.
