Werner “John” Lindgren
May 20, 1938 - December 5, 2023
Please lift our family in prayer as we mourn the loss of our beloved John. Loving husband to my mom and stepfather to us. John passed peacefully this morning at 3:30 am at home surrounded in love.
Werner “John” Lindgren was born at home in Misery Bay, Michigan on May 20, 1938. He was one of eight children born to John Arthur and Signe Lindgren. His family primarily spoke the language of Fin at home; therefore, he had a tough time when he began school where English was the spoken language. John attended the one room school from grades Kindergarten through 12th and furthered his education at Michigan Technical University in nearby Houghton. He earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. With his education, John had several jobs as a contractor which allowed him to travel the world. His favorite place to work and reside during his career was Arizona because of the hot, dry weather. As far back as John can recall, he has always been very cold. John tells a story of one of the times that he and his father were hauling pulp in Misery Bay, and he said his father had the window rolled down because he was hot. John said that he was so cold, but he just had to deal with it. That memory has stuck with him through the years.
As a child and young man, John helped his family with their logging business. He and his brothers would jump into the water after work to cool off and get relief from all of the flies! All of the children in John's family went to college and earned degrees. His eldest brother took a job in California, and then his parents and younger siblings eventually relocated to California. His mother, however, moved back to the homestead after John's father passed away.
John met Niko at a singles dance in Kokomo in 2002. They later had a unity ceremony and resided together in Galveston. John and Niko continued to travel together, especially in his Mooney airplane. They frequented Utah so John could ski the slopes of many different resorts. John was fortunate enough to pick and choose his work locations, according to where he and Niko could do the most gambling! Lol On several different occasions, some of Niko's daughters would visit them while John fulfilled his work contracts.
John decided to retire in 2012. He and Niko continued to travel and go to casinos together up until a couple of years ago.
John was a quiet man with a lot of amazing life stories. We were blessed to share some amazing experiences with John in his life journey. RIP “Johnny Yooper.” We will forever love and miss you. Thank you for all the joy you brought into Mommy’s life and giving our kids a Papa John.
Until we meet again, blue eyes.
No services are planned at this time.
