Paula Irene Caldwell
Paula Irene Caldwell, 72, Greentown, was called home to be with her Lord on February 2, 2023. Paula was born on March 8, 1950 and raised in Frankfort, IN by Paul Eugene and Geneva May (Booker) Troxell.
On February 5, 1972 she married Samuel Caldwell who preceded her in death on September 16, 2021. Paula and Sam were longtime residents of Greentown, IN.
Paula is survived by her loving daughter, Margaret Caldwell of Greentown, IN.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 50 years, Samuel Caldwell; and her sister, Brenda (Troxell) Lipscomb.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, February 18, 2023 in Greenlawn Cemetery on County Road 50 North, Greentown. Hasler & Stout Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Messages of condolence may be left at www.hasler-stout.com.
Joan Elizabeth Schaaf
Joan Elizabeth Schaaf, 90, Kokomo, passed away at 8:20 pm Saturday, February 11, 2023, at St. Vincent Hospital in Kokomo. She was born March 17, 1932, in her home, in Wabash County, IN, the daughter of the late Raymond Aaron & Lenore Elizabeth (Harter) Winger. On April 7, 1954, at the Converse Christian Church, by Rev. Russell Grubb, she married Richard Eugene Schaaf, and he survives.
Joan graduated from Jackson High School in Greentown, IN in 1950. She went on to graduate in 1954 from Ball State University and then received her master’s degree in education from Ball State in 1968. Joan taught at Roseburg, Sweetser, Roosevelt School in Kokomo and finished her teaching career with 23 ½ years for Northwestern School Corporation at Howard Elementary with the last 21 years being in kindergarten. When she retired from teaching, she estimated that she had taught about 1141 students. After retiring from teaching, she worked in the office of Central Indiana Oil in Kokomo for 4 years from 1993-1997.
Joan was an actively involved member of Converse Church of Christ where she played the organ for over 50 years. She was also a member of Indiana State Teachers Association, ISTA. After her husband retired, they helped deliver Meals on Wheels. They traveled all over the country in their fifth wheel trailer with friends and in 1998 started wintering in Florida, first at Pine Island, FL, Arcadia, FL and then in the Rio Grande Valley, TX. They eventually bought a place at Grandma’s Grove near Labelle, FL and wintered there until March of 2020. They made many friends there and said it was a “good place”. Joan enjoyed watching her grandchildren in activities and being with family, reading, and knitting her super thick potholders, which she gifted to many.
Along with her husband, Eugene, Joan is also survived by her children, Max (Becky) Schaaf, Mark (Danielle) Schaaf, Mike (Diana) Schaaf and Marla (Gary) Chapple; sister, Leah Joyce Hubbard; grandchildren, Alan (Kimberly) Chapple, Brian Chapple, Jordan (Amanda) Chapple, Anna (Drew) Reynolds, Adam (Sarah) Schaaf, Aaron Schaaf, Andrew (Hannah) Schaaf, Alex (Kristen) Schaaf, Catherine Schaaf, Raymond (Erin) Schaaf, David Schaaf and Katie Schaaf; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Levi, Sarah, Ezra and Grace Chapple, Hudson and Miles Chapple, Lucy Schaaf, Oliver and Adaline Schaaf, Kate Schaaf, Gemma Schaaf, and a great-grandson coming in March.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Donald Winger and Loren Winger.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 17, 2023, at Converse Church of Christ, 301 E. Wabash Street, Converse, with David Wheeler, John Clark and her grandson, Jordan Chapple officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Greentown. Friends may visit with the family from 4-8 pm Thursday at the church and one hour prior to funeral service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s memory to Converse Church of Christ to either the Samaritan Room fund or the Scholarship Fund. Kathaleen “Kathy Aspy” Iris Keller (Fearnow)
Kathaleen “Kathy Aspy” Iris Keller (Fearnow), 81, Frankfort, passed away peacefully at 8:50 pm on Saturday February 11, 2023, at IU Frankfort Hospital. She was born in Tampa FL. on March 21, 1941, to the late Maurice and Vivian (Benton) Fearnow. She grew up in Scircleville, IN. After graduating high school, she moved to Tampa, FL., and eventually to Kokomo, IN. On November 26, 1994, she married Bob Keller in Madison, IN., he preceded her in death in July of 2011.
Kathaleen graduated from Scircleville High School in 1959. She worked as a Payroll Accountant for Kokomo Center Schools and retired after 23 years of service. She was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church when she moved to Kokomo, and then became a member of First Church of the Nazarene in Frankfort. She was the President of Scircleville Alumni, and a member of local card groups. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s activities, baking, crocheting dish cloths, playing cards, and visiting with her friends for breakfast.
Kathaleen is survived by her children, Cary Doucette (Bruce Barnard), Rebecca (Roger) Owings, Keith (Nancy) Doucette, and Karen (Jon) Green; grandchildren, Adam Hagy, Dylan Green, Katie Owings, Paige Doucette, and Cooper Doucette; siblings, Pat Souders, and Betty Reed; and many nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Bob Keller (2011), and Don Aspy (1992), and brother, Richard Fearnow.
A memorial service will be held at 6 pm on Thursday February 16, 2023, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main Street, Russiaville, with Gordon Smith officiating.
