Deborah Kay Mahalko
Deborah Kay Mahalko, 73, Kokomo, passed away on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born May 17,1949, in Kokomo, to the late Benjamin C. and Melba J. (Miley) Hollingsworth. On September 5, 1971, she married Stephen Mahalko, and he survives.
In 1968, Deborah graduated from Western High School and went on to attend Wright Beauty College. She worked as a beautician and at Bowden Flowers, for 14 years. Deborah loved Christmas, crafts, and Hallmark movies. She loved her family and cherished time spent with them, especially her grandchildren. Deborah was a devoted wife, mother, and woman of God, as she loved the Lord with all her heart.
Deborah is survived by her loving husband, Stephen; children, Shawna (Larry) Grimme and John Michael (Alicia) Mahalko; grandchildren, Jacob Grimme, David (Logan) Grimme, Zachary Mahalko, Kate Mahalko, Nick Mahalko, and Nate Mahalko; great-grandson, Hunter Grimme; brother, Vern (Brenda) Hollingsworth; and sister-in-law, Kathy Withers.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Fred C. Hollingsworth.
Friends may come and pay their respects to the family at a celebration of Deborah’s life from 11 am to 12:30 pm, on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at the Walnut Creek Apartments Clubhouse, 4600 Colter Drive, Kokomo, IN 46902. Larry Dee Powell
Larry Dee Powell, 81, Greentown, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2023, at his home. He was born March 30, 1941, in Plevna, Indiana, to the late Monroe and Geraldine (Fry) Powell. On June 21, 1959, he married Veda Asher; she preceded him in death in 2020.
Larry was a pipefitter for General Motors for over 32 ½ years, retiring in 1998. He owned and operated Powell’s Carpet Sales in Greentown and laid carpet with his sons for over 40 years. Larry loved to camp, was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed spending time on Nyona Lake. Larry was a big fan of the Indianapolis Colts and IU Basketball. Most of all, he beamed with pride when he saw his grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
Larry is survived by his sons, Vince (Roberta) Powell, Jeff (Nikki) Powell, and Rex Powell; grandchildren, Cassandra (Adam) Powell, Shawna (Steven) White, Brenda (Jacob) Kinder, Brooke (Cole) Walker, and Allen Kirkpatrick; and great-grandchildren, Arabella, Greyson, Tru, Jace, Aubrey, Gaven, and Araya.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved wife, Veda.
