Mary Helen (Smith) McCartney
Mary Helen (Smith) McCartney, 57, Kokomo, passed away at 6:46 pm Monday, December 25, 2023, at Community Howard Regional Health in Kokomo. She was born to James Kevin & Shirley (Vehaeghe) Smith on February 5, 1966. Mary was married to Bill McCartney and they had two sons, Jesse McCartney and Joey McCartney. She then met Aaron Richardson, her partner of 27 years, they have one daughter, Sophia Richardson.
Mary received her GED and became a CNA for several years.
Along with her partner Aaron, Mary is also survived by her children, Joey (Angie) McCartney, Jesse (Vinessa) McCartney and Sophia (partner, Laney) Richardson; grandchildren, Erin and Tori Kaughman, Bentley, Lincoln and Maggie Martin, Brendon McCartney, Alohnna and Athena Hale, Kaylee, Cameron and Kelsey McCartney; brother, Kevin Michael Smith, Kokomo; sister, Laura (Joseph) Nocera, Chicago; step-daughter, Natasha (Darrell) Martin; sisters-in-law, Cathy Smith Meyers and Lisa Richardson; nieces and nephews, Christan Smith, Angie McDaniel, Steve (Mandy) Smith and Molly and Nicholas Nocera; along with several Smith family relatives in Ohio that she enjoyed visiting in her youth.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Patricia Smith, James Bernard Smith and William Vincent Smith.
Funeral service will be held at Noon Friday, January 5, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Jeff Russell officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10-12 pm Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help with final expenses.
George Melvin Summers
George Melvin Summers, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023, at the age of 81. Born on May 28, 1942, in Kokomo, Indiana.
George was a proud graduate of Kokomo High School, class of 1961, and shortly after graduation, he answered the call of duty by enlisting in the United States Army. His 15 years of service to his country were marked by honor and commitment, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers.
A true movie buff, George's extensive collection of DVDs was a testament to his love for film. His passion for the silver screen was only rivaled by his loyalty to the Detroit Tigers. Many will fondly recall the excitement and enthusiasm with which he followed every game, living and breathing each play with his characteristic zeal.
George's generosity knew no bounds. He was always the first to lend a helping hand, and his thoughtful nature made him a beacon of kindness in the community. His adventurous spirit led him to embrace life's moments with an infectious optimism that inspired those around him.
He is survived by his loving stepchildren, Marita (Joe) Smith, Jimmy, and Eddie Cayot Gail Scanlon, George's siblings, Linda Aldridge, Karen Malkowski (Eddie), Greg Morris (Beth), and Robert Morris, will cherish the memories of their brother's laughter and love, as well as his nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Bertha Miller, who raised him with love and care. and Betty Lou and Leslie Morris. The loss of his first wife, Janice Caot Summers, and his second wife, Julie Summers, were profound moments in his life, yet he continued to face each day with courage and grace. His sister, Mary Long, brother-in-law Danny Long, and brother, Jimmy Morris, have passed before him, and we take comfort in knowing they are reunited once more.
