Rex A. Nimmo
He is now pain free, his spirit is on the final trip of a lifetime and the wind is at his back.
Rex A. Nimmo, 71, born October 15, 1952, the baby of three children to Aaron and Onnie Nimmo, he was always Mom’s favorite, passed peacefully on January 11, 2024, surrounded by love.
Rex lived a full life and on his own terms, he loved to party, celebrate birthdays (His own) and host parties, complete with a fabulous fireworks finale. Graduate of Taylor High School and a lifelong Howard County resident. Red- headed and freckled, he was a nomad at heart, in his younger dumber days he would hitch hike cross country and back, more than once. He had a “memory like an elephant”, always had a joke to share or a great story to tell. Free spirited, he lived life to its fullest, fast and loose and was wealthy with all his friendships. He recently reminisced that he didn’t think he had left anything undone. He had an extensive collection of Marilyn Monroe memorabilia and Harley Davidson keepsakes.
Rex worked as an over-the-road truck driver for many years. He traveled and saw this beautiful country through the windshield of a semi cab. A road trip to Alaska in 1990, then a family trip to Hawaii in 1994 completed his Bucket List item to visit all 50 of these United States. He was so stinkin’ witty, and his sense of humor compelled him to tattoo a photo of Mom and Dad on his left shoulder so they went everywhere with him. His final Harley Davidson was an identical matching Big Blue Pearl Harley with his best bud Mick Mickler which made them the “Happy Bikers” and many fun rides they had together.
Sexy Rexy enjoyed: riding his Harley, the wind in his face, honky tonks and saloons, smoky ole pool halls, Johnnie Walker scotch, music of John Prine, driving the back roads especially out West where he could drive on the old/ original sections of Route 66, browsing antique shops, cold beer, music of Jimmy Buffett, reminiscing about all the wild and crazy events of his life, country western music, Thursday baked tenderloin at the Corner Pub, Norman Rockwell Art, Cowboy and Western moves on TV and all his “gal pals.”
He is survived by brother, Dannie (Glenda) Nimmo; sister, Wanda (Larry) Taylor, two nieces, Nikki (Thomas) Williams, of Kokomo, Amanda (Todei) Lewis of Indianapolis; “greats”, Cassie Artrip, TreyAndre and Kaylee Williams, Avory Lewis; “great greats”, special buddy Carson, Reaghan, and Dillin – he loved them all; “bonus niece”, Lindsey Mickler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Aaron and Onnie Nimmo.
Rex was one of a kind and one in a million, a super nice and funny guy. Life was an adventure. We were all just lucky enough to be in his orbit.
Thanks and appreciation to Peggy Day and Mike Bowser for your kindness, compassion, and care.
Memorial gathering will be held and friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902.
