Edwin Stutzman
Edwin Stutzman, 93, of Kokomo, passed away 3:11 am Tuesday July 11, 2023, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born at home in Marshall County, IN, on December 29, 1929, the son of the late Raymond E. and Katie (Yoder) Stutzman. On June 19, 1955, he married Betty Kauffman at the Maple Grove Mennonite Church in Topeka, IN, and she preceded him in death on August 4, 2013.
Edwin was a 1947 graduate of Milford High School. He proudly served our country in the United States Navy as a radio operator. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University. He retired from Delco Electronics after 30 years as an electrical engineer. In those 30 years, he was instrumental in Delco partnering with Bose Speakers to integrate their audio systems in the first General Motors luxury cars.
Edwin was raised on a farm and was always fascinated with John Deere tractors and equipment. Some of his favorite hobbies were golfing, mowing lawns, and bowling. He was recently recognized as a Golden Legacy Member for bowling for the past 58 years in Kokomo. He was very skilled in remodeling projects and renovations that he completed at his and his children’s homes. He was a devout member of the Kokomo Church of the Brethren since moving to Kokomo in the 1950’s. Edwin served on multiple church board positions and committees throughout his entire life. He was a lifelong fan of Purdue University.
Edwin is survived by his children, Renee (Greg) Cunningham, Terry (Christina) Stutzman, Rhonda (John) Lipinski; grandchildren, Cameron (Olivia) Cunningham, Courtney (Kevin) Jewell, Lily Lipinski, Lia Lipinski, Bryce Stutzman, Ella Stutzman; great-grandchildren, Connor Martin, Brynlee Cunningham, Greyson Cunningham, Michael J. Jewell; siblings, Viola Kaiser, Etta Fern (Lowell) Maust, Ralph (Marilyn) Stutzman, Robert (Verna) Stutzman; sister-in-law, Shirley Stutzman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Katie Stutzman; wife, Betty Stutzman; brothers, Junior Stutzman, Eugene Stutzman; brother-in-law, Ben Kaiser; and granddaughter, Katie Lynn Cunningham.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 pm Monday July 17, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Funeral service will be held at 11 am Tuesday July 18, 2023, at Kokomo Church of the Brethren, 311 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902, with Pastor Mark Stahl officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Edwin’s name to the Kokomo Church of the Brethren. Laura Ann (Shumaker) Akers
Laura Ann (Shumaker) Akers, 42, passed away Wednesday July 5th at Community North hospital in Indianapolis after a long illness.
She was born February 7, 1981, to Steve Shumaker and Teresa (Jackson) Dillman, in Kokomo, IN.
Laura loved to learn and was pursuing a Master’s degree in Psychology. She spent most of her adult life traveling; spending time in Germany, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Alaska and Washington before settling back in Indiana. In her spare time she enjoyed reading and playing cards.
She had a passion for helping others and especially enjoyed spending time with her sons Kristian and Eli as well as her nieces and nephews and their children.
Laura is survived by her mother Teresa Dillman; step-mom MaryBeth (VanHoeven) Shumaker; her sons Kristian and Elijah Akers; brothers Anthony (Shelley) Shumaker; Tyrel (Mitsy) Shumaker; sister Noelle Verrett; and brother Will (Amanda) Shumaker; step brothers Gordy (Darlene) Dahlman; Matt (Jaime) Dahlman; Josh (Mel) Dahlman; nieces and nephews Nick, Katelyn, Emily, Mercedes, Alethea, Sebastian, Jillian, Bridgette, Alyssa, Trenton, Jenna, Emma, Shelby, Lexie, Jackson, Cameron and Chloe. As well as paternal grandfather Warren (Pat) Shumaker.
She was preceded in death by her father Steve Shumaker, maternal grandparents Billie Joe and LaFreda Jackson and paternal grandmother Libby Shumaker.
Jeaneane Ann Kanable
Jeaneane Ann Kanable, age 82, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2023.
Jeaneane will be laid to rest in Albright Cemetery, 3910 Albright Rd, Kokomo, Indiana 46902.
