Janet Kay Gunning
Janet Kay Gunning, 82, Kokomo, passed away on July 3, 2023. She was a beloved mother, wife, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Janet was born November 18, 1940, in Kokomo, where she spent her formative years. She went on to attend Kokomo High School and Milligan College in Tennessee and later became a bookkeeper/data manager at Huston Electric. She later married William Gunning and adopted two children, Colin Gunning and Heather. She resigned from her job to be a stay-at-home wife and mother.
She is survived by her son, Colin Gunning, and his wife Michelle; daughter, Heather Turner; grandchildren, Heaven Gunning, Rylie Gunning, Alexis Turner, and Emily Gunning; two great grandchildren; sister, Ladine Hornback, and her husband Don; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Vance and Mary Robinson; and her husband, William Gunning.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 21, 2023 in Albright Cemetery with Rev. Fr. Peter Vanderkolk the officiant. Reese Michael Hendershot
Reese Michael Hendershot, 23, Kokomo, passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023. He was born June 14, 2000, in Tipton, the son of Gregory & Susan (Grabbe) Hendershot.
Reese graduated from Tri Central High School in 2019. He was a member of the Pipefitters Union and was looking forward to starting his new job with the Howard County Maintenance Department. He loved riding quads and dirt bikes, antique tractors and boating with the family. Reese also enjoyed spending time in the shop, hanging out with friends and spending time with his best friend and sister, Jacey.
Along with his parents, Gregory & Susan, Reese is also survived by his sisters, Breanna (Caleb) Strom and Jacey Hendershot; maternal grandfather, David Grabbe; paternal grandmothers, Carole Record and Karen Hendershot; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many, many friends.
Reese was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Ralph Hendershot; and maternal grandmother, Carolyn Grabbe.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Bible Baptist Church, 2635 S. Dixon Road, Kokomo, with Pastor Keith Treadway officiating. Burial will follow in New London Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo. The family would like you to dress casually for the funeral service and visitation as Reese wouldn’t have it any other way. LaDonna Michelle Johnson
LaDonna Michelle Johnson, 65, Kokomo, passed away at 4:45 am Friday, July 14, 2023, at Kokomo Health Care Center in Kokomo. She was born August 19, 1957, in Harvey, IL, the daughter of the late Willie Gene Johnson & Joyce Boylan.
LaDonna graduated from Thornton High School in Harvey, IL. Her church home was True Vine Missionary Baptist Church in IL, then Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church when she moved to Kokomo in 2012. LaDonna’s ministries included Helping Hands, Choir and served a part of the Kokomo Great Banquet community. She worked as a crossing guard for Boulevard Elementary School since 2018.
LaDonna is survived by her daughter, Takia Johnson; siblings, Dwayne Boylan, Tharon Johnson and London Johnson; along with a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
LaDonna was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Eddie Green, Jr. and Jerrold Johnson.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 28, 2023, at Mount Pisgah Missionary Baptist Church, 1599 E. Sycamore Street, Kokomo, with Pastor Lonnie E. Anderson, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Crown Point Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 10-11 am Friday at the church. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
