Joann Ewing
Joann Ewing, 92, Russiaville, passed away at 9:57 a.m. Monday July 3, 2023, at her home. She was born September 1, 1930, in Mount Summit, Indiana, the daughter of the late Harry and Ethel (Harvey) Rutledge. She married Thomas Ewing and he proceeded her in death.
Joann graduated from Mt. Summit High School in 1948. She worked as a secretary for Pendleton Reformatory and later retired. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Joann enjoyed crocheting, knitting, playing board games and was an avid reader, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Joann is survived by her children, Nancy (Steve) Rushton, Dennis Hilligoss, Patti Hilligoss and Jean Hilligoss; grandchildren, Jennifer (Allen) Snyder, Shawna Gillenwater, Ashley (Steve) Hage, and Craig (Kim) Lloyd; great-grandchildren, Raylynn Snyder, Joel Snyder, Allen Snyder, Deja Gillenwater, Tyler Miller and Miles Hage; and one great-great-grandson, Christopher Pevehouse, along with several nieces and nephews.
Joann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Thomas; siblings, Sarah Groves, Charles Rutledge, Helen Batchfield, Mary Ray, Myron Rutledge, and Norma Mohn.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday July 6, 2023, at Temple Baptist Church, 1700 S. Goyer Rd, Kokomo, with Dr. Jim Willoughby officiating. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the church. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements. Nathaniel “Nathan” J. Cox
Nathaniel “Nathan” J. Cox, 28, Kokomo, passed away at 1:06 am on Thursday, June 28, 2023, at I.U. Methodist in Indianapolis. He was born on July 23, 1994, to Danny Joe and Barbara Lynn (Nicholson) Cox. On June 16, 2015, he married his high school sweetheart Samantha “Sam” (Washburn) Cox, and she survives.
Nathan worked for Sutton’s Towing Service as a mechanic for the last two years. He enjoyed working on cars, souping up Mopeds, fishing, fireworks, and playing video games. He was a dedicated family man and would do anything for them. He was excited to finally be a father.
Nathan is survived by his parents, Danny and Barbara; wife, Sam; his daughter on the way, Lilith; siblings, Ryan (Nicole) Shietz, Bobby (Shannon Stephens) Cox, Christopher (Nicole) Cox, Brittany (Cody) Perry, Amber (Stephen Pitcher) Nicholson, and Meredith (Chance) May; and several nieces & nephews & cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Leslie (Pete) & Peggy Cox, Gary Shaw, and Larry Riley; cousin, Tiffany Cox; niece, Hannah Cox; and great grandparents, Meredith “Pa” & Mary “Nanie” Nicholson.
A funeral service will be held on Friday July 7, 2023, at Chapel Hill Christian Church, 2600 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, with Tim Tranbarger, Joe Wampler, and Chris Cox officiating. Burial will follow in Springdale Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 pm to 6 pm on Thursday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to assist the family with final expenses. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with arrangements.
Cloyd Allen Myers Sr.
Cloyd Allen Myers Sr., age 90, of Loudon, Tennessee and formerly of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away Saturday, June 24, 2023. Cloyd was born to the late George Witten and Goldie (Keys) Myers in Maynardville, Tennessee. As a young man, Cloyd started working as a Tool Grinder for the Haynes Stellite Company in Kokomo, Indiana before entering the US Army where he spent the majority of his time serving in Germany during the American Occupation. After service, he returned to the Haynes company and enjoyed working there until his retirement. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to watch a good NASCAR race, he cheered for the Indianapolis Colts, and became a Tennessee Vol fan too!
Mr. Myers was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Nancy (Yocom) Myers, his granddaughter, Amanda Myers, and brothers, Bill E. Myers and Jackie E. Myers.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Cloyd A.(Robin) Myers, Jr., of Loudon, Tennessee; grandchildren, Alisha Evans of Kokomo, Indiana, and Tanner A. Myers, of Loudon, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Austyn, Makenzye, Fayth, Tyler, Kayla, Kaleb and Khloe; great-great-grandchildren, Amelia, Allison, Mya and Walker.
Visitation for Mr. Myers will be held Friday, July 7, 2023 from 4:00pm - 8:00pm, at Ellers Mortuary, 725 S. Main St., Kokomo, IN. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, July 8, at 11:00am at Ellers Mortuary, with internment immediately following at Albright Cemetery, 3910 Albright Rd., Kokomo, with Military Honors.

Martha M. Stewart
Martha M. Stewart, 96, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2023. She was born Sept. 6, 1926 in Kokomo to Harry J. and Gertrude Smith.
She attended Kokomo High School and was a lifelong member of the Salvation Army. She married John A. Stewart on July 26, 1947. They had two children: Julie Herron (Murry) of Clearwater, FL and Jeff Stewart of Kokomo. She loved to cook, sew, sing, read her Bible, and plant a garden nearly every summer.
She is preceded in death by her parents; three sisters Orpha Sparling Powell, Josie Poff, and Betty Mills Arnett Shook; and her husband John Stewart.
She is survived by her two children and six grandchildren; Gina Hallam (Steve) of Logansport, Lisa Cavalleri of Oldsmar, FL, Angela Cunningham (Vince) and Christian Herron of Elizabethtown, KY, Danielle Akers (Nick) of Ft. Wayne and Summer Stewart of Tipton; two siblings: Lt. Col. Harry J. Smith of Rockford, IL and Emma Jackson of Terre Haute; and six great grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Martha will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Salvation Army, 1105 S Waugh St, Kokomo, Indiana 46902.
James "Jim" E. Harris
James "Jim" E. Harris, age 79, of Macy (Nyona Lake), Indiana passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2023. He was born in Biscoe, Arkansas to the late Charlie and Pauline Harris.
Jim graduated from Eastern High School in 1962. He then went on to work for General Motors and retired after 30 years.
Jim was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Fulton County and around Kokomo as well. He was a big racing fan, and loved to watch Nascar.
Jim enjoyed any body of water, especially if he was on vacation with his family. He was a loving, caring, and kind soul that will be missed by many.
Jim is survived by his children Dawn (David) Thomas, Shawn Harris, Tammy Kennedy, Randy (Charlotte) Kennedy; daughter-in-law Debbie Kennedy; grandchildren Melissa Matricia, Meghan Zwiebel, Courtney Ditchley, Shawn Harris Jr., Kassey Kennedy, Kayla Kennedy, Kagan Kennedy, Kelsey Kennedy, Natalie Haddad, Jeremy Kennedy, Steven Johnston, and Ron Johnston. He also leaves behind 10 great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Jim is preceded in death by his wife Joyce Harris; son Chuck Kennedy; brother Gary Harris; and sister Charlene Roseberry.
A visitation for Jim will be held Saturday, July 8, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Ellers Mortuary & Crematory Center, 3400 S. Webster Street, Kokomo, Indiana 46902, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jim's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, PO Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284 and the COPD Foundation, 3300 Ponce De Leon Blvd., Miami, Florida 33134.
