Elmer Eugene Lewis
Elmer Eugene Lewis passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at home. He was born on December 9, 1929. Elmer is survived by his wife of 69 years, Fern, and four children: a daughter, Patricia Horton (Jerry), and three sons, Richard (Christine), Robert and Larry. He is also survived by six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Elmer is a U.S. Army combat veteran who served in the Korean War. He is a patriot who loved his country and was proud of his military service. He was a member of the American Legion.
Elmer retired from General Motors (Delco) in 1985 after 32 years.
He was an accomplished and avid bowler in Kokomo’s bowling “hey day”. In 1966, Elmer and his Kokomo Eagles Lodge teammates (whom he referred to as his brothers) won an international bowling tournament in Ft. Wayne. (The large trophy was displayed in the Kokomo Eagles Lodge for many years.) He enjoyed working in his garage on “fix it” projects and watching sports of every kind on television.
Elmer was the No. 1 fan of the rock band “Papa Roach”; and enjoyed a personal connection to the band members. He will be missed by his family, who are grateful for his long, healthy and independent life.
The family would like to extend a special Thanks to Compassus Hospice and their staff, Pedra, Rhonda and Megan for their amazing support in Elmer’s closing weeks and days.
A graveside service at Kokomo’s Crown Point Cemetary will take place on Saturday, June 10th at 11:00am with full military rites performed by the United States Army and the VFW Post 1152 Military Rites Team. Janice Faye Horn
Janice Faye Horn, 84, Kokomo, passed away on Monday June 5, 2023, at Community Howard Regional Health System. She was born in Harlan, KY on July 22, 1938, the daughter of the late Garnett and Effie (Burgan) Carter. She married Eldon Horn in Jellico, TN, on March 10, 1984, and he preceded her in death on April 8, 2009.
Janice took pride in her home. She and Eldon were members of Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed trips to Hoosier Park, crafting with flowers, and keeping up with family and friends on Facebook.
Janice is survived by her children, Bobby (Connie) Jones, Rhonda (Kenny) Cockrell, Cindy Jones, Glenda (Danny) Casteel, Brian (Kim) Jones, Kathy (Donnie) Titus, and Jon Jones (Angela McKinley); grandchildren, Christine (Brent) Wines, Jennifer (Ryan) Preston, Chastity (Jason) Stroud, Jessica (Cory) Shuck, Deanna (Shawn) Durham, Jordan Best, Michael (Amanda) Casteel, Carrie Casteel, Amber (Matt) Woolever, Daniel (Airelle) Casteel, Kassie Wright, Nick Jones, Nathan (Emily) Jones, Katelyn (Raistlin) Coppernoll, Collin Christopher, Joseph (Katie) Jones, Connor Jones (fiancé Lydia Beck), and Blake Jones; 35 great grandchildren; brother, Charles Carter and her companion, Dewayne Hunt.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Bobby Jones; second husband, Eldon Horn; 3 brothers, Ron Carter, Tracy Carter, and Garnett Carter Jr.; and 1 grandson, Chad Jones.
A funeral service will take place at 1 pm on Friday June 9, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Kenny Cockrell officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 11 am to 1 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the funeral home to help assist the family with final expenses. Jay Dee Hyde
Jay Dee Hyde, 54, Kokomo, passed away at 7:05 pm Friday, June 2, 2023, at his home. He was born on October 28, 1968, in Kokomo, the son of the late J.D. and Patsy (Selph) Hyde. On May 21, 2016, he married Mary (Hawthorne) Hyde at their home in Kokomo, and she survives.
Jay is a graduate of Western High School. He had worked for the last 3 years at E & B Paving as a concrete finisher. Jay was a member of the Operator Union. He enjoyed playing pool, throwing horseshoes, riding his Harley, and spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Mary, Jay is survived by his sons, Michael Boruff, and Jacob Hyde; sister, Madeline McAninch; and grandchildren, Teaghen, Zohie, J.C., and one granddaughter on the way.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Patricia Slavey; brothers, Matthew Hyde, James Hyde, and Herman “Jack” Hyde; and his dog, Sissy.
