Gary Boyd Mendenhall
Gary Boyd Mendenhall, 57 of Kokomo, passed away peacefully in his home at 5:25am on Wednesday, March 1, 2023. He was born in Kokomo, Indiana on February 15, 1966, to Warren and Rosemary (Crispen) Mendenhall. On September 25, 2015, he married Jane Ann Hicks at Grace Baptist Church in Kokomo.
His passion for bowling began when he was just 8 years old; he continued to enjoy bowling throughout his adult life. In 1984, Gary graduated from Haworth High School; his was the last graduating class. After graduation, Gary began his working career at KMART with a variety of places to follow throughout his life: Calderon Brothers, USPS, EDS, Frito Lay, G4S, and Chrysler. His most enjoyable work was at EDS as a computer technical support analyst and running his own computer assembly business. He took pleasure in leisurely riding his motorcycle and was passionate about his Dodge vehicles. During the summer months, Gary greatly enjoyed umpiring various softball games at Northwest Park in Kokomo. He was a member of the National Softball Association, the American Softball Association, and a member of Grace Baptist Church. It was common for Gary to be playing games as he was an avid D&D and gaming lover. He attended GenCon annually as well as traveled to other gaming conventions around the United States. Gary was well known for his sense of humor and if you didn’t hear his comment the first time, he would tell you, “your hair looks nice”.
Along with his wife, Jane, Gary is survived by his children, Jonathan Mendenhall, Breanna (Schuylar) Hostetler, and Jason (Ashley) Sheetz; grandchildren, Ava Ellinger, Parker Sheetz, and Ryleigh Hostetler; his aunt, Betty Miller and several cousins. He was a dedicated, loving father figure to Dejah Stafford and Jacob Stull.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
A celebration of life will be held at 11 am on Saturday, March 11, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 West Lincoln Rd, with Pastor Kerry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4pm to 7pm on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the funeral home.
