Larry Richard "Rich" Hattabaugh Jr.
Larry Richard "Rich" Hattabaugh Jr., age 54, of Greentown, Indiana was called to His Heavenly home on Sunday, March 5, 2023, surrounded by his family and loved ones after a hard battle with pancreatic cancer.
Rich was born July 21st 1968 to Larry Hattabaugh Sr. and Sandra Dukes. He attended Kokomo High School and graduated in 1987. After Rich graduated, he went on to work at Chrysler, and was a proud member of the UAW 685, before retiring after 33 years.
Rich was an amazing softball coach to many young athletes in the Greentown area and also coached football and baseball. In the summer, Rich would also spend evenings umpiring with his father Larry Hattabaugh Sr. In his free time, Rich loved to go camping, fishing, and hunting with his family. Rich would spend time fishing with his father, singing the Cowboy song, and even hooked him in the nose once. Friends will reminisce about the days of going four-wheeling with Rich. He would always go above and beyond for his friends and family, making friends wherever he went. Rich absolutely loved life and never met a stranger.
One of Rich's favorite hobbies was to play Magic the Gathering. Many of you may remember sitting at the card shops for hours playing Commander. Rich would take the time to teach new players how to play and build decks. Some of your decks may have been DESTROYED by Rich, but just remember he loved every minute of it, even if you didn't. Rich also loved to play videogames with his children and grandchildren, like World of Warcraft, Nintendo 64, and playing the Nintendo Switch. If he wasn't playing a card game or a videogame, he loved to play Catan and board games.
Rich loved to dance, and also loved to teach others to dance. In 2012, Rich's pickup line to Jennifer was "What kind of dancing do you like to do?" So, like every woman, she blocked him immediately, only to marry him on October 4th of 2013.
Rich is survived by his wife Jennifer; five children Alexis, Talen, Destiny, Journey, and Dallas Hattabaugh; parents Larry and April (Dani) Hattabaugh Sr., and Max and Ruth Floyd; siblings Myles (Jaina) Hattabaugh and Casey Alexander; grandchildren Jaxon, Mason, Clayton Southwick, Bradley and Connor Brock, and Trisha Hattabaugh; one niece and several nephews; and his dog Thatcher.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents Talmadge and Lottie Hattabaugh as well as Earl and Fern Dukes; sister Stephanie Wohlford; beloved dog Biggie Girl; and mother, Sandra Dukes.
Visitation will be Friday, March 10, 2023 From 2-6pm, at Ellers Mortuary and Cremation Center, 3400 S. Webster St., Kokomo. A funeral service will be Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11am. Burial will immediately follow the service at Springdale Cemetery, Bunker Hill, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jennifer Hattabaugh to help cover expenses.
