Charles “Chuck” H. Kern
Charles “Chuck” H. Kern, 69, Kokomo, passed away at 8:58 am Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Community North Hospital in Indianapolis. He was born July 31, 1953, in Kokomo, the son of the late Herman & Agnes (Stahl) Kern.
Chuck was a 1971 graduate of Haworth High School and a graduate of Ball State University. He was a successful car salesman for Erik’s Chevrolet for 28 years. He enjoyed his time working at Erik’s, receiving salesman of the month several times. Chuck was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #6 and Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his many longtime friends.
Chuck is survived by his brother, David Kern. Chuck was preceded in death by his parents.
A special thank you to Kokomo Place Assisted Living staff for the exceptional care they provided to Chuck. Thank you also to friends Garry Jones and Chris Williamson for their care and friendship.
A celebration of life will take place from 4-8 pm Friday, June 16, 2023, at the American Legion Post #6, 2604 S. Lafountain Street, Kokomo. Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory has been entrusted with cremation.
Robert “Bobby” McKinley Ligon Sr.
Robert “Bobby” McKinley Ligon Sr. was born May 15, 1941 in Kokomo, Indiana, son of Portra May Pollard and Gilbert White.
Robert “Bobby” received his education through the Kokomo School System. After graduating he served his country in the United Sates Army for 4 years after which he was employed by Chrysler Corporation for 30 years where he retired. He was a member of UAW Local 685, the American Legion Post 6 and Naptown Riders MC. He went on to become the national president of the Dragons MC. Later in life he gained the nickname BQ. He loved spending time with his family and close friends also hanging out with his motorcycle brothers. He enjoyed going to his grandchildren’s sporting events.
On May 4, 2023 Robert “Bobby” went peacefully to be with the lord surrounded by his loved ones.
Robert "Bobby" is survived by children Michelle (David) Bailey, Robert Ligon Jr., Michael Ann Ligon, Charlene Lucus, Steven Sarver, Cornell Connon Jr.; brothers Gary (Michelle) White and Darrell (Aurora) White; sister Darlene Campbell White; grandchildren Tonita Bailey, Stacy, Stephanie, Tre, Tyree, Aeden, Kinley, 7 great grandchildren, numerous nieces & nephews and other family members.
Also surviving is his companion for over 40 years, Lisa Conyers, her daughter’s Alnisa (Tracy) Armstrong, Seanta Conyers; grandson’s Braylen T. Johnson, Bre Sean Wilson and A’Marion Conyers.
Robert “Bobby” was preceded in death by his parents Porta May Pollard & Gilbert White; brothers Gene Pollard, Bennie Pollard, Stacy Pollard, Harry Nothington, Babe Northington and niece MeMe.
Services for Robert “Bobby” will be Saturday May 13, 2023 1:00pm with visitation from 11:00am until time of service at Ellers Mortuary 3400 S. Webster St. Kokomo. Service will conclude in Ellers Chapel. Military Rites will begin the service.
Monica Ann VanSchoick
Monica Ann VanSchoick, 71, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, at 2:42 pm. She was born February 15, 1952, to Leslie and Lucille (Iverson) Sachow.
Monica attended Wadena High School in Minnesota where she graduated and went on to attend Ivy Tech Community College. She worked many jobs throughout her life including Goodwill where she received an award for being employee of the year. She also worked at several gas stations and restaurants.
Monica was a member of the “Clubhouse” in Kokomo, and she loved picking up responsibilities and helping others there. She was a member of Crossroads Community Church, where she was a devoted member. She helped serve in the kitchen and loved the Lord deeply and those around her. She was a gifted artist and loved creating art by drawing and painting. She was a very loving mother who was proud of her sons. She will be dearly missed by both her sons.
Survivors include her sons, Michael VanSchoick and Matthew (Meredith) VanSchoick; grandchildren, Spencer VanSchoick, Brianna VanSchoick, Evan VanSchoick, Logan VanSchoick, and Elise VanSchoick; sister, Marry (Sam) Phillips; and close friends, Kelly and Rita, who were as scripture says. Proverbs 18:24 “A man of many friends may come to ruin, but there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.” These two friends were truly loving and compassionate, always there in both good times and bad. And last but not least, her family member, and companion, who shared such a strong bond with Monica, her dog “Itty”
Proceeding her in death were her parents and her brother, Gregg Sachow.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Crossroads Community Church 4254 S 00 EW, Kokomo, with Pastor Dave Welsh officiating. A private burial will take place in Crown Point Cemetery. Messages of condolence may be left online at www.shirleyandstout.com.
