Vivian Maxine Davis
Vivian Maxine Davis, beloved mother, and grandmother, passed from earth to heaven on Sunday, May 21, 2023. She was born July 19, 1936, in Tompkinsville, KY, to Prentice Aaron and Olene (Bartley) Gearld. On February 18, 1956, in Kokomo, IN. she married Jack R. Davis, and he preceded her in death.
Vivian graduated from Kokomo High School in 1954. During her life, she worked at and retired from Delco Electronics. She was a member of Courtland Avenue Church of Christ and a firm believer in Jesus Christ. She enjoyed many years as a member of the local Red Hat Society.
Left to treasure her memory are her son, Greg (Kathy) Davis; daughter, Lisa (Kevin) Smith; grandchildren, Brad (Kelly) Davis, Dennis (Cassie) Ehase, Zachary (Dara) Davis, Cole (Amber) Davis, Rachel Smith, Rebecca Smith and Ryan (Kelly) Sisson-Smith; great grandchildren, Ashley Ehase, Austin Ehase, Parker Davis, Jack Barney and Jett Davis; sister, Geneva Padfield; sister-in-law, Alice Davis; special friend and caretaker, Roxanne Lawson; and several nieces and nephews.
Vivian was preceded in death by her parents, husband; and sister, Geraldine “Jeri” Whisler.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Wednesday May 24, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Pastors Kevin Smith and Kevin Kay officiating. Burial will follow in Albright Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 12 pm until the start of the service, on Wednesday at the funeral home. Mary Estes McCullar
Mary Estes McCullar, 84, Noblesville, passed away at 3:09 a.m. Saturday, May 20, 2023 at Bridgewater Healthcare in Carmel. She was born July 25, 1938 in Elwood, IN to Walter and Gracie (McClanahan) Estes. In October of 1976 she married Hugh McCullar who preceded her in death on November 7, 1986.
Mary worked for Eli Lily retiring after 33 years of service in human resources. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Red Power, and Central Indiana Antique Tractor Association. She enjoyed collecting quilts and was a member of the Quilters Hall of Fame in Marion, IN.
She is survived by her sister, Nina (Jim) Turner; nephews, Mark Estes and Joey Pala; great niece and nephews, Samuel, Daniel, Chelsy, Levi, and Bradly, as well as a sister, Carolyn (Bill) DeWitt.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Jack Estes and Max (Shelia) Estes; nieces, Melinda Pala and Tanya Davis; and a nephew, Nathan Estes.
Funeral services will be at Noon Thursday, May 25, 2023 at Hasler & Stout Funeral Home, 112 East Main St. Greentown, beginning with an Eastern Star service. Bill Schaefer will officiate the funeral with burial following in Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Peggy Sue Denton
Peggy Sue Denton, 83, passed away peacefully at her home on May 19,2023. She was born on May 2, 1940, in Tipton, Indiana to Lewis R. Burgan and Jennie J. Foutch. She was blessed to have a wonderful stepfather at the age of 8 who she loved dearly, Chester L. Songer. On September 26,1958 she married the love of her life, Robert L. Denton. They were married for 61 loving years. He proceeded her in death.
Peggy graduated from Plainfield High School in 1958. She was primarily a homemaker with the exception of being a teacher's aide and working at South Side Feed. She loved to camp with friends, snowmobile and attend bluegrass festivals. Her favorite times were fishing with her husband and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her three children, Robert (Kathy) Denton Jr., Terry (Karen) Denton, Jennifer (Kirk) Paprocki. Grandchildren, Robert (Ashley) Denton III, Barry Denton, Chelsea (Stew) Matlock, Blake Denton, Jeffrey (Hannah) McKay, Noah (Megan Miller) Paprocki and Jake (Nargiza) Schmidt. Great grandchildren, Baley and Brayden Matlock, Gannon Denton, Patrick and Peter McKay, Paisley and Brody Denton and Taylor Schmidt; brother-in-law Jim Kesterson; nieces and nephew Diana TenBrook, Melinda Kesterson and Jim (Karen) Kesterson. She is also survived by many loving cousins, The Foutch’s, Roe’s and Ridgeway’s. Peggy had many special friends, Teresa Bowe, Katrina Bennett, Susie Frazier, Shirley Childers, Linda Ousley, Irene Herschberger, Kim Foster and Kathy Landgrave.
The family would like to specially thank Guardian Angels Hospice, nurses Terry and Angie, Katrina, Teresa and Kim for all the love and support they offered while Peggy was on hospice care.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 pm Thursday May 25, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Funeral service will be held at 10 am on Friday May 26, 2023, at the funeral home, with Pastor Lynn Brust and Gene Frazier officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Garden. Janet Elaine McAninch
Janet Elaine McAninch, age 81, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at her residence. She was born on October 29, 1941, in Kokomo to the late Harold and Eleanor (Bruno) Layton.
She married the love of her life, Earl S. McAninch on November 22, 1958, in Kokomo, Indiana, and he survives.
Janet was primarily a homemaker, but also had several part-time jobs. She attended Kokomo Schools, but she went to work at an early age to help support her family. She enjoyed ceramic making, sewing, and most of all, puzzles, and spoiling her great grandchildren. She loved being a stay-at-home mom and wife and loved to cook for her family, especially her Italian meat rolls (inspired by her uncle Frank Bruno's recipe). Janet adored her children, grandchildren, and especially, her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Earl; four children, Vincent (Jenny) McAninch, Dale (Heather) McAninch, Darren McAninch, and Michelle (Brian) Legan; grandchildren, Angie Pentland, Matthew Legan, Lance Ashcraft, Diana (Matt) Davis, Megan (Logan) McCauley, Morgan (Ora) Etchison, Breanna (Quinton) Young, and Kasey Trine, and her children, Julian and Jordan; other great-grandchildren, Keegan and Kyle Paul, Miles and Maxwell Etchison, Layla Ashcraft, and Evelyn and Sophie Davis, Elaina and Griffin McCauley, and one on the way, Quinlee Young, expected in September 2023; siblings, Barbara Wethington, Mark Layton, and Maryann Grisamer; sisters-in-law, Shirlene Merida; brothers-in-law, Butch Freeman and Jacques LaRose; and several nieces and nephews.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Eleanor (Bruno) Layton; brothers, Kenny Layton and Jon Layton, infant brother, Johnny Harold; great-grandson, Vinny Young; brother-in-law, Dan Merida; and sisters-in-law, Donna and Julia.
There will be a time of visitation for Janet on Friday, May 26, 2023, from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 12:00 P.M. at Ellers Mortuary Webster Chapel, 3400 South Webster Street, Kokomo. Thomas Nelson Layton
Thomas Nelson Layton, 77, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on May 20, 2023. He was born on May 19, 1946 in Greensburg, Indiana, the son of Max and Mary Maxine (Nelson) Layton. He married Lucille (Westover) Layton who survives.
Thomas received his Master's degree from Indiana State. He sold real estate before beginning his career in Mortgage Origination.
Thomas was an avid fisherman and took many trips to Canada with his fishing buddies. After retirement, Thomas and his wife, Lucille enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. He also took painting classes after retirement. Thomas was a member of Fairfield Christian Church since 1974. He was a great supporter of his grandchildren's education.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 55 years, Lucille; children, Robyn (Scott) Schmidt; grandchildren, Gavin and Chloe; sister, Marsha (Ed) West; several nieces and nephews; and many friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 26, 2023 from 11:00 am until the start of funeral services at 1:00 pm at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. Alto Road, Kokomo, Indiana 46902. Richard L. Bragg, age 87, of Lowell, Indiana passed away on Saturday, May 20, 2023. Richard was born in Grant County, Indiana.
