Gertrude Arlean (McQuiston) Weaver
Gertrude Arlean (McQuiston) Weaver, 101, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on May 24, 2023. She was born on July 11, 1921, in Kokomo, Indiana, the daughter of Charles V. and Gertrude R. (Oesterle) Weaver. Arlean was a 1940 graduate of Kokomo High School. She won a contest in 1941 that led to Kokomo being deemed the "City of Firsts." Arlean loved to roller-skate and was a regular at the skating rink in her younger days. She also played guitar with a group on the Blue Monday Jamboree Program on WIOU in 1938.
During WWII she welded lifeboats for the Marines and was a government artillery inspector. Arlean worked and retired from Delco Electronics after 36 years, where she was a member of the UAW 292 and Delco Alumni Club.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Ron (Marcia) McQuiston, Karen Barnes, Rita (Mike) Moore; grandchildren, Denise McQuiston, Nick (Misti) McQuiston, Heather (Matt) Hubbard, Carol McQuiston, Jonathan Barnes, Carly (David) Brinkley, Casey (Jake) Hurlock; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Laciee, Donnie, Aubrie, Jenna, Jessina, Raziel, Saylor, Raelynn; sister, Rosalyn Rogers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; grandchildren, Michael McQuiston, Sarah Barnes; great-grandchild, Elias.
Visitation will be from 4 - 7 p.m. Friday, May 26, 2023, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 W. James "Chris" Mavrick
James "Chris" Mavrick, age 53, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023 at Community Howard Regional Health. He was born to late James and Joann (Graves) Mavrick in Kokomo, In. Chris married Melissa "Missy" (Dibble) Mavrick on December 21, 2002 in Kokomo, and she survives.
Chris graduated from Kokomo High School in 1988. He was a member of the Varsity Baseball Team, which finished State Runner Up '88. He continued his playing career for Missouri Valley College and Anderson University. Chris began his employment with General Motors in 1999 and just recently retired this year. He enjoyed coaching baseball and spending all his time with his family. Chris was a lifelong Chicago White Sox fan. He had no greater passion than coaching his kids and watching his daughter show horses.
Survived by his loving wife, Missy; children, Candice (Kenny) Parson, Hayley (Mitch Pickard) Mavrick, Lizzy (J.T.) Hurt, and Levi Mavrick; granddaughters, Blakely Parson and Paisley Hurt; brother, Jason (Kelly) Mavrick; nieces, Lucy and Molly Mavrick, Ellie Land; nephews, Charlie Mavrick, Aiden and Peyton Skiles; father-in-law, Joe (Diane) Dibble; mother-in-law, Pam Dibble; and sisters-in-law, Jenny (Jason) Skiles and Amanda (Rob) Land.
Preceded in death are his parents; brother, David Mavrick; sisters, Pam Barber and Barb McIntire.

Jeffery Alan Dotson
Jeffery Alan Dotson, 58, Kokomo, passed away at 5:04 pm on Tuesday April 18, 2023, at Community Howard Regional Hospital. He was born in Marion, IN., on January 12, 1965, to the late Chester and Diane June Dotson.
Jeffery graduated from Kokomo High School in 1983. He had worked for GM in Marion and Schneider Electric in Peru. He enjoyed riding his Harley and participated in the Howard County “Ride for the Troops” ride every year. He loved watching Notre Dame football and enjoyed attending Kokomo High School and Duke Blue Devils basketball games.
Jeffrey is survived by his brother, Kenneth “Lee” Dotson; niece, Katelyn Dotson; nephew, Kiel Dotson; great niece, Jeanine Dotson; and great nephews, Carter and Logan Dotson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will take place at 10 am on Thursday June 1, 2023, in Albright Cemetery, with Pastor Jason Grant officiating. Winifred “Winnie” Eilene Baxter
Winifred “Winnie” Eilene Baxter, 97, passed away at 2:45 am on Sunday, May 21, 2023, at Waterford Place Health Campus. The daughter of George and Pearl (McCarter) Smith, she was born in Kokomo on January 2, 1926, and married Robert Baxter, Sr. on May 16, 1944.
As a child she would sing and yodel, and was asked to try out for a singing contest at the local radio station. When she stood up in front of the microphone, nothing would come out and she was completely mortified. The song was: Cowboy Sweetheart. She, however, continued yodeling to her family, until she turned 96.
Winnie attended Kokomo High School and later worked at Reliance during WWII making parachutes for the Army. The building in which she had worked was the same building, the Delco north plant, that she would later retire as a 31 year Delco Electronics employee. She was the past president of Del Ray, loved playing golf in her free time and played in several golf leagues. Winnie was an avid reader of history, loved to cook, sew, and most of all loved her family and friends. She was baptized in 2003 with her son-in-law, Arden and daughter, Jan.
Winnie loved to travel and visited countries including Japan, Singapore, China, Switzerland, Denmark, Norway, Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Scotland, Ireland, Canada, Mexico, and cruised across the Caribbean, Alaska, and the Panama Canal.
Survivors include children, Caroll Coan, Anderson, Jan (Arden) Draeger, of Kokomo; grandchildren, Colbey (Greg) Warren, of Littleton, CO, Cortney (Jason) Murphy, of Lakewood, CO, Michael (Rosa) Baxter, of Mesa, AZ, Patrick Coan, of Anderson, Darcy (Bob) Hughes, of Chester, NJ; great grandchildren, Whitney Warren, Josie Warren, Micah Warren, Aspen Murphy, McKinley Murphy, Brandon Baxter, Gracie Baxter, Ella Hughes, Harry Hughes, and Connor Hart, and many nieces and nephews and special friend, Tilly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Robert Baxter, Sr., son, Robert Baxter, II, son-in-law, Gene Coan, granddaughter, Kindra (Draeger) Hart; brother, Paul “Buddy” Smith, and sister, Wanda Waltman.
We were so blessed to have had the staff at Waterford place and Paradigm Hospice caring for Mom. Thank you for your love, support and compassionate care. You made her life worth living.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home, 1315 W. Lincoln Rd. Kokomo, with Pastor Charlie Riley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with family from 11a.m until time of service Friday at the funeral home.
