Shirley Sue (Hewitt) Flick
Shirley Sue (Hewitt) Flick was born on March 5, 1936, in Howard County. She was the youngest child of Alva and Margaret (Richey) Hewitt. Shirley passed peacefully on Wednesday morning, April 26, 2023, surrounded by her family in the California home of her daughter, Krista. It was the second winter Shirley had enjoyed the sunny, warm California winter climate spending time watching the hummingbirds, reading in the sun, and taking walks. Shirley was well-loved and cared for by both her California and Indiana family as well as many faithful friends.
On June 3, 1955, Shirley married the love of her life, Larry Flick. They were very proud of their 65-year marriage attributing this longevity to a joint faith in Christ and love of family. Together, Larry and Shirley had three children, daughter Krista (Bryan DeWitt), son Larry “Lee” (Barb Whitehead), and daughter Vonda (Billy Peters). Shirley was a dedicated and loving mother, and she also was employed at Delco Electronics where she retired in 1990. Additionally, Shirley treasured her grandkids and great grandkids. When her grandkids were growing up, there was rarely a time when there wasn’t one of them at Shirley and Larry’s house or even temporarily living with them. Shirley would do anything for her grandkids or great grandkids and adored and made each one of them feel special. Shirley’s grandkids include Keith Flick (Tristyn), Brianne DeWitt Goudelock (Bryan), Amber Sholty (Dustin), Brady Peters (Sam), and Molly Peters. Great grandkids are Gabby and Will Sholty, Zetta and Violet DeWitt Goudelock, Brooks, Scout, Asa, and (namesake) Sibley Sue Peters. Shirley also had a special relationship with her nephew, Craig (Quincy) Henderson.
Shirley was a faithful servant of the Lord. She was always preparing delicious meals for those in need, writing encouraging cards, pet sitting for neighbors and friends, babysitting, visiting shut- ins, and serving in many other ways. She faithfully attended Fairfield Christian Church, sharing her talent by playing the piano for many years as well as being director of a traveling bell choir.
As Shirley entered fully into the presence of the Lord, she was welcomed by her husband, Larry, her parents, Alva and Margaret (Richey) Hewitt, her sister, Mary Evelyn McFall, and brothers, Eldon, Lowell, and Keith Hewitt. Oh, what a reunion that had to be!
