John Edward Pritchett
John Edward Pritchett, 76, of Kokomo, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 6:12 am Thursday November 16, 2023, at St. Vincent Heart Center in Carmel, IN. He was born in Ellington, Missouri, on October 10, 1947, the son of the late John Virgil Pritchett and Ellen Elizabeth (Raines) Pritchett. He was married to the mother of their children, Linda Johnson, for 30 years and she survives.
John grew up attending church in Ellington, MO. He was a graduate of Ellington High School. He continued his education by first earning an Associate’s degree from Linn Tech University and further received his Bachelor’s degree from Indiana State University. He first taught at Ellington High School for 7 years. While in Ellington, he drove a school bus, owned a business and operated a small farm. This is also where he built a church attended by family and friends. In Indiana he taught building trades at Ivy Tech for 30 years until his retirement in 2010. At Ivy Tech, he also helped organize the teacher’s union. John was passionate about teaching his students in the classroom and on the jobsite. John’s God given talent was building, crafting, and woodworking. This talent was always centered around giving and serving others. He built homes for his parents and both built and renovated homes for his family. He was truly a master of his craft.
John was a light and inspiration to numerous friends and family. His loving heart and kindness touched everyone he encountered. John was always dependable for words of encouragement and comfort. He was also an ear to listen to any struggles and he followed up with a peaceful and guiding message that everything was going to be alright.
John is survived by his children, Cindy (Joe Gellinger) Pritchett, Kokomo, IN, Shawn Pritchett, New York, NY, Alec Pritchett, Russiaville, IN; bonus children, Alysia (Sean) Sester, Cincinnati, OH, Aubrey (Chris) Vazquez - Willard, Geelong, Australia, A.J. (Evie Glover) Vazquez, Russiaville, IN; Alec Pritchett’s mother, Julie Vazquez, Russiaville, IN; sisters, Delores Davis, Arnold, MO, Erma (Monroe) Crafton, Ellington, MO, Joyce (Fred) Henry, Ellington, MO, Charolett (Bruce) Tremaine, Ellington, MO, Sue Pritchett, Sullivan, MO; nieces and nephews, Steven, Paula, Shellie, Tammy, Lance, Mendy, Brian, and Brad.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Paul Davis.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 pm Monday November 20, 2023, at Stout & Son Funeral Home – Russiaville Chapel, 200 East Main Street, Russiaville, IN 46979. Funeral service will be held at 10 am Tuesday November 21, 2023, at Honeycreek Missionary Baptist Church, 250 Nashville Street, Russiaville, IN 46979, with Pastor Jim Stevenson officiating. Graveside service will be held at Noon Wednesday November 22, 2023, at the Ellington City Cemetery, Cemetery Road, Ellington, MO 63638.
