Nancy Lynn (Nieder) Slaubaugh
Nancy Lynn (Nieder) Slaubaugh, 85, of Kokomo, passed away Wednesday September 27, 2023, at her home. She was born in Grosse Pointe, MI, on February 5, 1938, the daughter of the late Herbert Nieder and Helen (Dally) Anderson. On October 10, 1959, she married Dale Melvin Slaubaugh, and he preceded her in death on May 30, 2022.
Nancy graduated from Grosse Pointe High School. She retired from Western High School where she worked as the guidance counselor’s secretary. She was a devout member of The ConneXion Church, formerly St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, where she was heavily involved with the women’s ministry, sang in the choir, played handbells, and played the piano and organ. She was a longtime member of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. Nancy loved flowers, bird watching, listening to music, and was competitive when playing cards. She also enjoyed cruising around the neighborhood in her golf cart and spending her winters in Florida with her husband.
Nancy is survived by her children, Mike (Linda) Slaubaugh, Julie (Dan) Coleman, John (Mindi) Slaubaugh; grandchildren, Jared Slaubaugh, Evan (Molly) Slaubaugh, Erin (Nic) Hayes, Cara Slaubaugh; half-sister, Gail (Bill) Dodge; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Dale Slaubaugh; parents, Herbert Nieder and Helen Anderson; and sister, Diane (David) Cross.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday October 4, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 West Lincoln Road, Kokomo, IN 46902. Funeral service will be held at 11 am on Thursday October 5, 2023, at The ConneXion Church, 700 East Southway Boulevard, Kokomo, IN 46902, with Pastor Scott Pattison officiating. Evagnes Marie Sommers
Evagnes Marie Sommers, 90, Greentown was rewarded for her faithful witness and service by being called home to fellowship with her Heavenly Father at 3:37 pm, Friday, September 29, 2023, surrounded by her family. Evagnes was born May 20, 1933, in Greentown, IN, daughter of Ursal Dale Little and Freda Jane (McCan) Little. Evagnes married Roland Jay Sommers on April 21, 1957, in Greentown, Indiana. Jay preceded her in death December 15, 2005.
She graduated from Eastern High School in 1951 and received a Bachelor’s and Master’s from Indiana University. She taught First Grade and Kindergarten at Eastern Howard School Corporation retiring in 1994. She was a member of Kokomo Zion Church. Evagnes enjoyed attending the sports and musicals in which her grandchildren participated and was involved in many ministry and church activities.
Evagnes was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by 3 children listed below with (grandchildren) and [great-grandchildren]: Sharon Spangler and her husband Ken, Bunker Hill, IN (Michelle Spangler [Jonah, Jalen], Jenny Spangler [Xander, Kennedy], Monica and Mark Slack, Ashley and Matt Sheets [Emma, Elise, Everett, Esme]); Rheta Gordon and her husband Jeff, Greentown, IN (Brittney and Kyle Kjormoe [Kael, Ellana, Brielle], Brad and Bethany Gordon); and Dale Sommers and his wife Deneen, Greentown, IN (Luke and Kristina Sommers [James, Ezra, Liam, Claura), Nathanael and Nicole Sommers [Carmen, Michael, Joe], Joy and William Myers [John, Elisha, Lydia], Joshua and Anna Sommers [NaLayah, Jahmere]).
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and brother, Willis Little.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, October 3, 2023, Kokomo Zion Church, 5051 County Rd E 400 N, Kokomo, with her grandson, Pastor Nathanael Sommers officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Zion Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 4:00 – 8:00 PM on Monday October 2, 2023, and 9:30 – 10:30 on Tuesday. Tevin Mendez
Tevin Mendez, 31, of Kokomo, passed away on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital- Kokomo. He was born on July 29, 1992, in Kokomo, the son of Daniel Mendez and Jessica (Harrison) Sharp.
Tevin attended Kokomo High School. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters, drawing, making art on clothing, visiting with friends, riding his bike, and listening to music. Tevin was very friendly and was loved by everyone that knew him and had family everywhere.
Tevin is survived by his parents, daughters, Alyviah Mendez, Izabella Mendez, and Evelyn Wade; stepson, Ayden Chandler; grandparents, Dave Mendez and Jan Baird, Randy and Sandy Harrison; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Preceding Tevin in death were his grandparents, Jerry and Robin Bugher, and Margarita Anaya.

Donna Marie Barker
Donna Marie Barker, 78, of Kokomo, IN passed away September 29, 2023. She was born on August 1, 1945, in Logansport, IN. She married Freeman Thomas Barker, Jr. who preceded her in death.
Donna was a beautiful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved her family very dearly and enjoyed spending time with them. Donna retired from St. Joseph Hospital after 27 years of housekeeping in the surgical department.
Surviving relatives include two daughters and two sons, Sandy Garrett (Roger) of Kokomo, IN; Debra Peirce of Kokomo, IN; Jeffrey Barker (Kim) of St. Louis, MO; Vance Barker of Kokomo, IN; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and a sister Margie Foust of Kokomo.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, twin brother and sister Judy Smith and John K. Rybolt.
