Sydney Nicole Kelly
Sydney Nicole Kelly, 24, Kokomo, passed away on October 17, 2023. She was born September 17, 1999, in Berkeley, California, the daughter of Francis Kelly & Daphne (Beets) Chandler.
Sydney was a 2018 graduate of Kokomo High School and a member of the Kokomo Marching Wildkats. She played alto sax. She graduated from Ivy Tech Community College in 2019 as a certified Phlebotomist and Health Care Specialist. During the pandemic, she worked as a traveling Phlebotomist. Sydney was pursuing a degree in Political Science at Ball State University. She had a spontaneous and adventurous spirit. Despite living with Sickle Cell Disease, she refused to let it limit her opportunities. She enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, Broadway shows, shopping, concerts, video games and spending time with her family. Sydney was an avid follower of Harry Styles and One Direction. She was passionate about New York and planned to live there after graduation.
Sydney is survived by her mother, Daphne Chandler; grandmother, Carolyn Bell; aunts and uncles, Terry (Nancy) Allen and Christopher (Jenn) Bell; cousins, Brittney (KaRan) Malone, Tyrese Bell and Nick Barlow; nephews, Karter Malone and Kade Malone, along with several great-aunts and uncles, cousins, friends and Bruno the dog.
Sydney was preceded in death by her father, Francis Kelly; grandfather, Theopolis Bell; great-uncle, Alvin Beets; and great-grandparents, Oscar & Margaret Snow.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, October 21, 2023, at Shirley & Stout Funeral Home & Crematory, 1315 W. Lincoln Road, Kokomo, with Missionary Cheryl Simmons officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Garden Cemetery. Friends are invited to visit with the family from 9-11 am Saturday at the funeral home. Edward Brantley
Edward Brantley, 76, of Kokomo, Indiana passed away October 18, 2023. He was born on September 29, 1947 in Speedville, TN the son of Albert Earl and Lillie (Williamson) Brantley. Ed worked at Chrysler Casting Plant from 1973 until retiring in 2018. He enjoyed collecting coins and a good stiff drink. He was known to do anything to make a buck. He also enjoyed going on walks with his grandchildren when they were little and feeding "his" squirrels. Ed proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967- 1969.
Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Irene Robertson, Faye Shouse, Reba Huddleston, Billy Brantley, Ivan Brantley, Ruby Barrett; grandchildren, Aaron (Bryanna) Osborne, Nicholas (Alyse) Osborne, Joseph (Katelynn) Osborne, Haley Garrison, Addy Hancock; son, Steven Osborne; several cherished great-grandchildren; daughters-in-law, Deanna Hurd and Yvette Forrest; special niece and caregiver Marcia Henderson; and many nieces and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; loving wife, Susan Brantley; son, Jeff Osborne; siblings, Velda Turner, Ada Brantley, Harold Brantley.
Visitation will be from 12:00 PM - 2:00 PM Monday, October 23, 2023, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home. Funeral services, officiated by Tom Simmons, will take place at 2:00 PM Monday, October 23, 2023, at Sunset Memory Garden Funeral Home, 2097 West Alto Road Kokomo, Indiana 46902. Altha “Joyce” Ancil
Altha “Joyce” Ancil, 88, Russiaville, passed away on Tuesday, October 17, 2023, at Waterford Place in Kokomo. She was born on October 22, 1934, in Belair, IL, to the late Voorheis and Mary Olive (Neibarger) Bowen. She married Charles “Chuck” Glenn Ancil on June 15, 1958, at Main Street United Methodist Church in Kokomo, and he preceded her in death on March 10, 1999.
Joyce graduated from Kokomo High School in 1952 and Taylor University in 1957. She received an undergrad in Elementary Education with minors in English, Science, and Social Studies. She earned a master’s degree in education from Ball State University in 1968. She was a science teacher for Kokomo Center Schools and retired in 1997. After her retirement she worked as the Harrison Township Assessor in 1998 and 2010 and was elected as the Harrison Trustee until the time of her death.
Joyce was involved with the Golden “K” Kiwanis club, where she held many offices and was the first female president. She was a member of the Parr UMC for 75 years and taught Sunday school for 50 years. She was the president of the United Methodist Women. Joyce and Chuck were members of the Pioneer Auto Club, where they liked to take their kids and show their 1966 Cornet Convertible. She also held many different offices with Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Kokomo Teachers Association, Retired Teachers Association, and was an active lobbyist for Education to the State legislative. She was the secretary for the 9A section of IVFA for 15 years, where she was also a member and received the Angel Award in 2009. Joyce volunteered as a firefighter and first responder at the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department.
Her hobbies included cooking and baking for her family. She enjoyed going to lunch with her teacher friends after her retirement. Joyce loved watching her granddaughter’s sporting events whether it was in softball, basketball, or participating in the Special Olympics. She also loved watching them in the Western High School marching band, and she enjoyed going to their state competitions.
Joyce is survived by her children, Mark (Cecilia) Ancil of Russiaville, Teresa Ancil Sullivan of Russiaville, and David (Teresa) Ancil of Kokomo; grandchildren, Melanie Sullivan of Indianapolis, Alicia Ancil of Kokomo, Nicole (Cody) Hale of Walton, and Caroline Sullivan of Kokomo; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; daughter, Melanie Ancil; sister and brother-in-law, Burnum & Phyllis Culbert; mother and father-in-law, Lewis & Muriel Ancil; brother and sister-in-law, Richard & Pat Mullen; brother-in-law, William Ancil; and nephews, James Culbert & Bradley Ancil.
The family would like to thank the Gentiva Hospice staff and the nursing staff at Waterford Place for the wonderful care they gave Joyce.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, October 30, 2023, at ConneXion Church-North Campus, 1135 N. Wabash Ave., Kokomo, with Pastor’s Jim Richey and Jackie Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Kokomo Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 2 pm to 5 pm on Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Stout & Son Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St, Russiaville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ConneXion Church-North Campus, Golden “K” Kiwanis Club, or the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Department. George Albert Burns, Jr.
George Albert Burns, Jr., 64, Tipton, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at IU Health in Tipton. He was born November 1, 1958, in Kokomo, the son of the late George A. Burns Sr. and Barbra J. (Curry) Burns. On March 5, 1999, he married Debra L. Rusk in Tipton, and she survives.
George was a 1977 graduate of Maconaquah High School. He loved to fish, draw and cross stitch. He liked to stay busy and would help anyone in need. George cherished the time that he spent with his children and grandchildren.
Along with his wife Debra, George is also survived by his children, George J. (Mindy) Burns III, Michael J. (Kasey) Ogle, Michelle J. (Eric) Ogle Kerr, Tiffany Burns, Abigial Burns, Amy Whalen (Roger) Dulworth, Jon (Michele) Whalen, Laura Whalen and Ed (Michaelle) Whalen, along with 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and brother, William A. Burns.
George was preceded in death by his parents.
